Jeanty

He doesn't have great speed or size and won't be able to bounce off tackles in the NFL like he does now. I sort of see him as a MJD type of pro, which isn't bad.
I think MJD is a fair comparison. Lets not forget that in 8 seasons MJD averaged 88 yards from scrimmage per game (101 ypg as a starter), was a 3 time pro bowler and a 1st team all pro one time.

I saw some tweet somewhere saying the UNLV resorted to "dirty tactics" in our game last week.

Anyone else see this?

It feels to me that people looked at the box score and assumed that we must have done something dirty.

But for dirty? Naw. No flags, and there was some gamesmanship with piling on and pushing off and things of that nature. You know, the same stuff that has been going on since Jim Brown?

GFTOH
The only team caught on tape throwing punches was Boise State. Funny how that gets ignored.

I watched one game with him all season (ours) and compared him to the NFL backs I watched on MNF.

I stand corrected by those who watched more of him.

Thank you all for the feedback.

Being up here in Broncos territory, I've seen a lot of Jeanty and heard the MJD comparison a few times. In fact, I think Dirk Koetter has made that comparison. The Rebels had a good plan for defending him and executed it well. Frankly, I'd never seen him get hit like he did on his first two attempts. That said, there were three or four shoetop tackles - and one turf monster - that don't usually bring him down. I remember a few times thinking, "wow, he didn't step out of that. I thought he was gone." Damage could've been a lot worse, but credit to the Rebels D. Instead, he ends up with 'only' 128 yds and one TD, and P4 apologists saying, "see, I told you he was overrated," when they'd love it if their guy could put up such "pedestrian" numbers.

Man, if he doesn't pass the eye test for you who in college football does right now? I think his biggest problems are he lacks height and I haven't seen him do a lot of pass protection, but as far on film he's got elite 10 yard burst, elite balance especially off of contact, elite vision especially on back cuts, excellent start and stop acceleration/deceleration, above average hands out of the backfield, above average long speed, and above average lateral speed. Of course, if he has a bad combine that could hurt his draft stock but I can't find a reliable draft prospectus that has him outside the top 3 RBs.

I don't think height matters to much for RBs.

He's 5'9 but 215-220. Can he pass block? Hasn't been asked to do it but he's built sturdy I think he would hold up well.

He's not going to make it out of the first round.

His ability to shed tackles is really impressive.

Jeanty is 5'9 and 215/220lb he's hardly small. Bijan Robinson 5'11 215.

He also ran a reported 4.42 at Boise. (Bijan Robinson ran like a 4.46 for comparison)

He'll go late first early 2nd at worst.

I think the biggest question marks for him are more about his hands/route running.

And how many carries he has had at the college level. RBs have some of the shortest careers in the NFL and he has a lot of wear and tear on him already.

MJD is a good comparison.

His coaches repeatedly compliment his pass pro.
He's got good hands, but he definitely needs to work on his route running.

Maybe not but he is projected to go possibly as early as mid first round so there are people that think he is.
The people who make those decisions are wrong on their assessments more times than they are right

SDSU held him 4.8 yards a carry last night. Jeanty is an absolute beast and is still racking up huge yards but can he keep it up at this usage rate. 3 straight games with 30+ carries. On pace for 300 carries this season and he may not be 100% if we face him again in December.

His NFL potential-Who knows? I’m just thinking about a MWC Championship rematch scenario.

It was 21-0 after the first quarter. Not sure why he is still running the ball in a 49-10 game, his usage rate definitely makes no sense.

Seems like it’s more important to win a heisman trophy than it is to preserve Jeanty for the end of this year (plus his future in the NFL). It’s the only explanation for how Boise is using him. Wouldn’t be surprised if their coach starts to receive scrutiny soon. for the high usage.

To be fair, BSU RB room is severely depleted. Their 2nd and 3rd RBs coming into the season have been largely unavailable this year

Keep running him BSU. Run him every play. Put him on special teams. Hell make him a linebacker as well. It will raise his stock for the Heisman!! I want another shot at Boise. Get a lead on them in their house with a tired Jeanty and see how they hold up. I’ll take those odds.

It’s a good point.

If we do play them again, hopefully he averages 35 carries per game …

Because they need to get his stats up. 31 rushes in a game they were winning 42-10 at half.. he should've sat but they can't do that anymore so add that milage to his legs

Agreed I guess a maybe Heisman is more important than the playoffs and his career? Not only do RB’s rarely get Heismans any more but a G5 school? They will give every chance to someone else to win it even with his stats.

Cameron Ward will win the Heisman unless he completely falls apart in his last 3 games
QB at top 10 P4 without a question...
But Boise will artificially inflate the stats by running 30+ times a game regardless of score and anytime inside 10 he's getting 2 touches at least to inflate the TD stats

I hate everything about Boise St. with the exception of their coach. I really want Jeanty to win the Heisman for what it'll do to G5 recruiting. For that very reason, he has no chance.

Yeah it's an uphill battle for G5s across the board.

Army's QB for example.

Has 600 yards passing 7 TDs 0 INT
Has 900 yards rushing and 19 TDs.

He' on an undefeated team.

Getting no pub.

(Army's schedule has been tissue paper soft but still those a crazy good numbers).

For non P4 guy to win it has to be part of a big upset.

I’ve sorta watched the second half of this SJSU game. Jeanty is looking like he’s got some wear and tear going on. I’m aware that he has 159 yards but it’s taken him 32 carries.

Him walking with a hitch in his giddy-up can’t give even Jerry Jones a good feeling.

I’m willing to be corrected if he has a 10-year HOF NFL career.
