I think a good assistant now comes down to how good is he at separating the desired players from the 1,000's of players in the portal. During the year a program needs to have a basket of several hundred of players so when one of those players hits the portal you can be right on it. Someone who is really good at this will be valuable. CJP doesn't need to be reviewing all the portal players. He needs a trusted subordinate who can present him with several dozen players to concentrate on.
