After defending Menzies all year long I have had enough. If we have another showing at Boise next Saturday like these last 3 games I hope to never see Menzies on the sideline at the T&M again unless he is coaching someone else. It is painfully obvious that the players just aren't picking up what he is laying down.

I thought I would never say this after the Rice fiasco but Desiree needs to sit down with the assistants and figure out who she wants to turn this thing over to for the remainder of the year.

You held out awhile. I think pretty much everyone sees it by now.

I just want to see once JUST once where he beats a more talented team.

I agree with you Pistol. And wish she would. But I believe she will wait till after the MWCT. We “part ways” with the coach and make a stunning announcement in about 44 days. Almost like waiting for Christmas.

i took a 2 week vacation during that time.I dont want to miss a thing. I CANT WAIT!!!

I bought in some to his “slow build” deal. But if he cannot get guys to play hard and at least defend it will not get much better.

Also MM was known as a recruiter, he brought in 1 big recruit in all this time in McCoy, who was way overrated.

Yep, time for a change. I still do not believe the pitino stuff though. Crazy that Cronin or beard would have worked out and late in year 2 and all of year 3 of MM they have been going backwards big.

Are you going to watch all of the games?
Gets too chilly in there without bodies. I’ll do the Rebel game(s) then bolt out of there.

Which sucks because even though it wasn’t a huge national level thing, when UNLV was competitive and so was UNM, SDSU, BYU and you usually had another team or two capable of an upset... the entire tourney was a blast. I’d stay and watch every second. For the last four years as the conference took a rather significant decline, it’s been a bore. Not just because UNLV hasn’t been good. Just not quality teams.

We used to take vacation and watch, well, pretty much the whole thing because we always made it to the finals at least. We would buy the first ticket then scheme to poach from the first losers.

Those were the good 'ole days - for us at least.

Sucks as MM really only gotten two years to coach a team of his players as the 1st was a mess. Some stability would of been nice but if we have something in the pipeline then I’m all for listening.

My issue isn't the number of years, it is that fact that he has not only lost, but been blown out by several really bad teams in his third year as coach and the team looks much worse than last year while the players don't look like they are even being coached. It is always possible things quickly turn around, but I have just not seen any signs that his coaching ability is going to improve.

What’s scary is year three, to this point, pretty much mirrors the “free pass” first year.

First year, the team was never good - but people have to also remember, before the wheels completely fell off, the team was 10-10. They finished 11-20. Were swept by SJSU after being 10-10. A lot of bad teams beat them in that 1-11 finish. And that first year was a tough OOC. This year’s was much easier. First year, conference was better. This year, the conference is at its all time weakest.

So, with a tough non-conference (vs easier this year), the year one team was “good enough” to essentially match his year three team to this point. Hmmmm… if they had finished 18-13, it would have been a “job well done”, but since they dropped 11 of the last 12, its “year one doesn’t count”. The league is much, much weaker now, we won’t be dropping 10 of last 11. But this year is eerily close to year 1 right now. Which is scary.

IMHO it is clear he is not getting it done. At $700,000 per year and soon to go up to $800,000 I beleive we can do much better.

Unfortunately, I am not bullish on either BB or FB in the near term. Training facilities and a borrowed stadium do not creat winners. Good players and great coaching does.

Dark times for UNLV sports........And it will likely continue. Of course the up side is that the trolls will have much to discuss.....

Therein lies my biggest complaint. To paraphrase Dennis Green, Menzies is who we thought he was. No knock on him per se. But history and recent experience showed that we were getting a decent, lower-tier, mid-major coach.

He’s been coach a while, and we know he has never beaten a ranked team. But until he beat UNM, I don’t know that he ever beat a team that beat a ranked team.

He’s never won a tournament game. We know that. But has he ever even beat a team that went to the tournament the year he beat them?

I just don’t know if he has ever led his team to victory when the opponent was better.

All fine and good if the expectations are a top 200 program. But that is not what is expected or marketed at UNLV. And before the straw men are set aflame, wanting a top 60 is not the same as wanting to be Duke, Kansas, UK, etc. a top 60 program is simply one when an at large bid is in play each season. What has Menzies ever shown to think that is possible?

But perhaps the scariest thing is how he has responded to the challenge. He hasn’t made the team better; he’s relied on making the schedule worse. And it still hasn’t paid off.

He's a con man getting paid to lose basketball games. Gonna do a victory lap when he gets sh it canned.

To think he would have you get another year of this mess while he laughs his way to the bank....

He wasn't fooling anyone.

Yeah he never should have got the job. I have been saying for weeks he would be gone at the end of the year. Even his success at NMSU was based off beating lesser opponents. When did he truly overachieve at NMSU? His record against the MW while at NMSU was terrible. His record against New Mexico was like 1-11 or something. He didn't even win a regular season wac title until Nevada, Boise State and Utah State all bailed out of the league for the MW.
He just isn't cut out to have success at UNLV. Wish him well as an assistant next year somewhere.

Well they didn’t have another game in Boise like the 3 previous games so I have to give CMM a reprieve. Short leash though. It seems we are an okay team when we are moving the ball and shooting the 3 ball well and a decent team when we actually play a little defense. Also the presence of Diong made a definite impact on the game.

Listening to the CMM radio show last night there was an interesting tidbit brought up about the winners of the MWC for the last 10 years in that all the winners had 7 or more upper classmaen on their rosters. We have four and two are injured.

Tons of excuses for not winning. Like the noise at Air Force when there were 700 in attendance. Man up.

2nd half of conference play in year 3. Every player on the team is his recruit. This is his team with time enough for his coaching to have had its effect.

All three years, record after mid jan must be crazy bad. Losing the team 3 years in a row is one you cannot look past

LMAO "Menzied"
Don’t worry, we are playing really horrific teams coming up. UNLV will probably win 4 straight. When that happens, all is well, we can give an extension. We can call wins on the road at 330+ Wyoming and 330+ SJSU and call them great, gritty wins. And think of the payback we are about to hit the 250+ cadets this upcoming week. When we trounce all these formidable teams, we can offer up contract extensions.

I’m getting ready for that run in March.

All this is part of his “build” at UNLV.

Sadly a road game against Wyoming isn't a gimme game for this team. UNLV probably wins, but a Wyoming win wouldn't surprise me. This is the team that got blown out at Air Force. San Jose State is the only team in conference where a road game should be a gimme. If Menzies loses tmr, he should be fired immediately.

I would also add a shame about Menzies not getting this done is this should be an era where unlv absolutely dominates the league. The conference is a trainwreck this year. A coach in his 3rd year at unlv should have a team that would go at least 14-4 against the level of competition this conference is. It wasn't like the Lon Krueger days where byu, san diego state and new mexico were all quality teams that either made the tournament or were close.

This year you have Nevada and no one else, yet unlv is still struggling to have a winning conference record.
