It's good to see Rollie in the stands

Rollie Massimino. What a coaching legend. I'll always remember him for his successful tenure here, along with all of his coaching domination after. I even remember his Rolaids commercial.

I read this post and thought to myself “sarcasm never plays well on message boards”. But then I noticed that the OP has posted more than 1100 messages and has collected a grand total of 5 “likes”. Five? I think those are participation points.

You're throwing a fit over likes? You can't give a person credence because they don't have enough "likes"? I don't care about the op, or what is being said, but to make the comment you did about lack of "likes" is really asinine.

Sorry guys I was 5 years old when he was here can someone please tell me what he did?

Long story short. He immediately followed Tark, was destined to be a failure regardless of his stint.

At his press conference, took a shot at Tark vowing no student athlete would ever embarrass the university ever again (JR Rider was suspended for the rest of the season after a tutor wrote a paper for JR - under Rollie's watch). He had a very, very solid team of Tark's leftovers. Before season began, said they weren't going to be the Runnin' Rebels, they'd be the Flyin' Rebels. Were good for the first half of his first year. Then lost a ton of very close games to close out the season. Missed the NCAA's. I believe they were the first team that was ranked not to make the NCAA's (were ranked 24 or 25 to end season). Got best at home vs a bad USC team in NIT to end season.

Second season sucked. Not memorable. Still some decent players. Hailed Fred Haygood as a savior. He was horrible. A supplementary secret contract that was never seen nor approved by the regents was discovered. UNLV paid him to go away. Short stint.

Somewhere in we scored an all time T/M low 39 points in a drubbing vs Virginia. Louisville also snapped a long record home streak. Also brushed off any criticism by saying basketball was just a tiny little game.

I'm not defending him, but he could never, ever win people over her given the circumstances. He was brash, arrogant and hot tempered and he was incredibly sabotaged while at UNLV as a result of the Tark/Maxson feud.

It's unfortunate, but the names and faces have changed but the game is the same.

No question I am, at times, an ass. Therefore asinine comments are kind of my “thing”. But the paucity of “likes” for the OP seem to suggest that his contributions fall on deaf ears.

That, in itself, means absolutely nothing, as you correctly noted. But in determining the intent of the Massimino post, I thought it suggested that sarcasm was not its goal. That perhaps he often takes contrary opinions. If I’m mistaken, well, that’s what we asses do. But thanks for your input. I “liked” it...

(And now I gave the other guy one too, ‘cause you made me feel bad…)

Careful, this might hit a nerve with posters who get very few likes...
