Yes, we showed there is improvements to be made in many areas but BSU is one of the top teams in the league and will make many teams look like shit. I have faith MM will get them working harder and improve. Don’t give up on them yet.

This loss was a long time coming. The past few games we won with more talent and less effort. That combination will never last.

But we have a lot of potential. I don't see the team falling apart or playing selfishly. And the discipline is there.

Two excellent posts, by actual Rebel supporters. Those that are immediately jumping at the opportunity to dump on the coach and/or the team should find some front-running team and hop on their bandwagon.

We’ve just come off the worst season in UNLV history. Getting to the top won’t happen overnight. We are exponentially better than we were just a few short months ago. Some will not accept any result that is less than perfect. I want us to be a Final Four team too, but I try to operate in the realm of reality. And I am a Rebel fan. I believe in them. I believe in Coach Menzies. I’ll be here even if they only win 12 games this year. I’ll see it as an improvement over last year. I’ll be disappointed, yes but I’ll still bleed Scarlet & Gray. That’s what devoted fans do.

Our team is good. We have some very good players. They just need to work on a few areas that, in my opinion, are totally obtainable. Some must work on their stamina. There was a palpable melt-down in the energy level from the first and second halves vs Boise St. Where I thought the frenetic pace of the game would work in the favor of the Rebels, in fact it was UNLV that couldn’t maintain it's composure and was unable to respond to the devastating run that ultimately decided the outcome. They also need to learn to trust each other. When things began to get away from them, they reverted to “hero-ball”. Each player tried to get us back in the game by themselves. This is never successful. If we’ve learned nothing from our past few seasons of mediocrity, it’s that athletic ability alone is valueless unless they can preform as a cohesive unit.

I will say, it was nice to see that Leon Rice declined to preform the “Dance of Joy” at game’s end. Maybe he’s gotten a bit more used to success. In any event, I’m confident that Marvin Menzies will be studying game-film and analyzing, with an eye, far more well-informed than mine or yours, the break-downs which led to last game’s loss. We’ll get better. We have the talent, it’s the teamwork that must improve. We’ll be ready for them when we see them at their house on February 3rd. By then we’ll have faced Fresno State on the road, and San Diego State at the T&M. If we haven’t learned some lessons about how to deal with teams that have had some success, we’ll be back to our middle-of-the-pack ways.

I’m of the belief that our fortunes will improve. Nothing that occurred in the Boise game is un-fixable. There is no way that we should be out-rebounded by 19 boards. Not with Juiston and McCoy in the paint. And they should be getting help from their teammates as well. Four players should be crashing the rim when shots go up. That’s another area that can be improved.

The next three games, at San Jose, vs Utah St, and at Air Force, should all be wins for the Rebels. Then we get another bye week. Meaning Coach and his staff will have ample opportunity to work on the team’s deficiencies. We’ll be better prepared for the” upper crust” of the Mountain West. And yes, I get the irony of that sentence. Being the best of the MW, is like being top dog at a mutt show. But it’s still the task at hand.

So, let’s support our team. We want them to excel, and they need us too. A solid fan-base is also an important ingredient to a team’s success. Let’s do our part.

Go Rebels!

I'm stunned at how quickly our fans give up on the team and act like they're terrible because we lost to a pretty good Boise St. team. The Rebels played poorly, a lot of it was a lack of hustle, but it as already stated, it was one game. UNLV is still a top 3 team in the MWC and they'll bounce back. A lot of our fans are mental midgets. Ridiculous.

Losing to a top team in the conference shouldn’t be surprising.

The panic isn’t something that only happens here though. Fans get outraged over losses on other forums too.

The team looked pretty good against the Pac-12. Utah and Arizona are tough competition. Utah is 2-0 against the PAC-12.

Everone will calm down when we go on a 5-game win streak, starting tonight.
