It is amazing how many people are clueless how the Stadium is funded!

Maybe those who are clueless should actually look at who approved that tax for the new stadium and what those funds from the approved tax increase were intended for, and it has never had anything to do with school funding and is only coming from the additional room tax not the tax payers of this state. Case in point:

It was money that was raised on behalf of the tax payers & was intended to help fund schools so NV didn't have to raise our taxes. Instead it is welfare for a really crappy team with one of the worse attendance in the NFL. No publicly funded stadium has EVER paid off

She knows what she’s spreading is false. This is intentional.

She's not all wrong.

The Raiders are in fact the absolute worst. I hope they go 8-8 for eternity. Just treading water in Lake Mediocrity, whose waters are renewed every winter with the tears of Raider fans.

Stadiums that have been funded through tax dollars have not been cash cows for their respective cities.

This is a slighlty different tax, and Vegas is a different type of city. So it may not play out the same...I think it will actually be beneficial to Vegas..

The rest is misguided at best....

Unbeknownst to you, I like all those things..

Jokes on you!

I refuse to believe that the Raiders coming to Las Vegas is a bad thing for the city. Now we may disagree about how the stadium was funded. But anything that brings our city a Super Bowl, NCAA Regional, Final Four , World Cup soccer. I'm 100% behind it.

And I think it's an important note that this outlook doesn't apply to every city. For instance, Indianapolis? Probably not the same type of need for tourism dollars. The events this stadium brings brings bodies with money. That fills up hotel rooms, casinos, bars, etc.

For Las Vegas specifically, it is a good thing more so than any other city.

I'm from Indianapolis so I can definitely speak on this. In the early 80s the Hoosier Dome was built for the sole purpose of attracting an NFL team and NCAA Championship games trade shows and any other conventions. This also led to multiple Hotel companies building larger resorts to accommodate the demand for rooms. The end result was a total revitalization of the downtown area that included restaurants shopping housing along the Canal area. The best way I can describe it is "build it and they will come". If you think about it MGM did the same thing with T-Mobile Arena.

That sort of makes me wish this stadium was downtown rather than in a warehouse district just off the strip. Would love to see something happen downtown... I love a few specific things downtown but it can be really depressing down there with the rapidly rising homeless population. Anyway that's unrelated...

I didnt pick Indy with any kind if malice, just kind if a generic example that a west coast lifer could use as reference :)

There was a story in the Review-Journal 2 weeks ago about the area around Allegiant Stadium. Look for those warehouses to become a restaurant and bar District surrounding the stadium. But before that can happen that land must be sold to investors. It is my understanding that the land surrounding the stadium is extremely expensive. The owners of the land will want top Dollar to sell it. Look for the Raiders and the city council to get involved as that area will need to be revitalized before we can host the Super Bowl.

First of all the city council has no say in regards to what happens around the stadium since it is located in the country, secondly the last thing I want is to have governmental agencies telling people what they can do with their land. If they get offered what they consider a reasonable offer, they will sell the property, if the land value do skyrocket, they will see their taxes also skyrocket, which will provide an incentive to either re-develop the land or to sell it to someone who will find a more profitable use than as a warehouse building.

You are right. Its the County since technically the stadium sits in Paradise Nevada. Anyways whoever wants to develop that area still has to come and present their plan in front of the county to get it zoned correctly and approved. As I said in an earlier post "build-it-and-they-will-come".

My son goes to school at the Las Vegas Academy and I occasionally have to go to the Molasky building for work, so I'm downtown all the time. I have to say that in the three years he's been going there, downtown has changed quite a bit. Things are getting bulldozed (the El Sid bit the dust recently), new buildings are popping up, streets are getting torn apart and rebuilt. Downtown is gentrifying. I haven't seen more/less homeless in the areas I frequent, but that could just be circumstantial.

I can tell you from going to county meetings for projects I am working on, and working with the building department, there are already dozens of projects in preliminary stages for development of property within the area of the existing warehouses. As for the homeless people, just go over to the area to the north of the freeway between Main Street and Las Vegas Boulevard, and you will find many of the homeless camping out.

I work M-F 8-5 downtown (without getting too precise) in the area of the RTC bus hub. I'm within a mile or two of there but am frequently in business neighborhoods around the area and as far west as Rancho at Bonanza, up through Charleston and LV Blvd for work. The last couple months has had significant shifts of where exactly the homeless folks stay. The numbers seem to grow as you go blocks south of Fremont and blocks west of Blvd. Of course this is nothing compared to the Mission or the encampment up on Owens.

I love the Fremont East area, but keep going east on Fremont. The Main St area is better now than it has been in a long time, but drive on Main St from Bonanza up to Charleston, or some of the Arts District areas. There are wonderful spots among these, but a pretty substantial homeless population exists.

All that said, I *love* some of the stuff happening downtown. Main and Ogden is among my favorite intersections downtown, even though it is a nightmare to drive. Circa construction looks phenomenal, but the road narrowing and intermittent closures suck. No big deal on that, I'll take the closures downtown for the growth it means (same goes for Fremont East and a myriad of other projects).

Sorry to totally hijack the thread! I was thinking how much I'd like to see MLS stadium redevelopment of Cashman district get done with the development group that city of LV has extended their exclusive negotiation window with ... I can't think of the firm. Or a significant and substantial art museum near Symphony Park where all of the new office and residential units are going. Ya know, large-scale, non-casino ventures that could substantially change the area.

MLB stadium at Cashman Field, build it and it will do what Nats Park in DC, to waterfront area. Gold mine
I'm probably in the minority here, but I hate the idea of MLB here. I love having minor league baseball. Loved having the Wranglers. The minor league appeal is definitely there for some sports, I think of LV as being one that supports MiLB. Wouldnt support NBA D/G - League though. Moderate support for Wranglers that waxed and waned.

Reason I would like MLB.

Offers a cheaper alternative to other major sports like Knights and Football. Call a buddy up on a Thurs. You can probably grab tickets for $20 or $30. Beers will cost you more.

I like baseball..

Reasons I wouldn't.

Dome baseball sucks. At least the atmosphere does. Chase Field in AZ is great when open, but has all the allure of an airport hanger when closed.

Understand your angle for sure though..

Went to see Rebs at Michigan in 2015(?) And went with a group of I think 6 to see Tigers vs KC. Verlander v Cueto.... I think for 6 of us we paid like $38 total and were at the upper rail of along the first base line. Pretty cool experience, but I imagine because it was last week or two of season and tigers were WAY out of it it was far cheaper then than usual.

I would be fearful of a tuesday night 7pm game in mid summer with like 8k people. I'm not an avid baseball guy at all, so maybe that's not what would happen or if it was maybe that's not a huge concern.

Tigers/ Royals game is only mlb game I've ever been to, so no real point if comparison for the experience *shrug*

I prefer baseball over all as a spectator sport. Outdoors. I just like the vibe, love the game itself, the weather, the sights and smells. But I don’t think many enjoy it as I do, my family would be bored stiff, I could think of a couple buddies that would enjoy it, not many though.

Makes sense..

I’ve been a huge advocate for getting MLS here! I think it would thrive and may even build the overall brand of the MLS.

I’m a baseball fan. Grew up going to the Stars games. Haven’t been to an alien game and wouldn’t go to an MLB game in a dome.

MLB wouldn’t get the support from the casinos/MGM like VGK get so it wouldn’t match the financial success of VGK.

I think it would do extremely well here.

bcvegas- Obvious you haven't been to a minor league baseball game in a long time. The team changed their name to the 51's almost 20 years ago and in 2019 changed their name to the Aviators.

You’re correct that it’s been since before the name change that I attended a game. I wouldn’t attend when they disgraced themselves by using the name 51’s and I didn’t have the time in my life at that point to dedicate to a 3 hour or so baseball game. I’ll watch here and there on tv but never a full game anymore, not even the World Series.

In fact, the only games I’ll watch in full are UNLV’s and the Steelers. That’s about it.

Yeah because being an idiot is a fulltime job!

I’ve whittled a bit more than you. UNLV only.

Soon, I’m guessing, none.
