This article was written before the Mullen hire. It ranks G5 programs most likely to be added to a P4 conference in the future. No Pac7/8 program met the metrics to even be included on this list. One current Mountain West program is ranked #1 on this list of the next G5 team likely be added to a P4 confrerence.

This is one reason it will be tough for the PAC to get teams from back east to join their conference since they are waiting for re-alignment and do not want to be stuck in the PAC with larger fees to exit. Also, reading UNLV was sixth in group of 5 revenue for 2022 is huge considering they only averaged 23K in attendance in 2022 compared to over 32K in 2024. UNLV revenue has skyrocketed this year, most likely revenue has increased by 50% or more from 2022.

I'm glad that with the Mullen hire we have committed to revenue sharing. That is huge in terms of staying competitive and puts us in alignment with what the B12 will be starting in 2025. I don't know what we committed to in terms of percentage but, the B12 teams are going with 22% of their revenue with each team having a cap at $20.5 million. On top of that they have NIL. I know Memphis is going to start Revenue Sharing from what I read but, I don't know at what percentage. If a G5 school is looking to jump to a conference like the B12 you almost have to start revenue sharing. Had we gone into the Pac12 I don't think we would have the money to start this thing. For right now for us it seems like we are making the right choices if we want to get to the B12.

I believe the BIG12 is a pipe dream.

However I do believe if the BIG12 looks to expand again there are 2 schools the BIG12 would be interested in adding and that's UNLV and UConn.

UConn provides travel partner for Cincy/WVU. And excellent basketball. Plus UConn basketball reaches into the NY market. UCONN football is independent so there's no messy exit fees there.

UNLV provides another travel partner for AZ and Utah schools. A growing market. It plants another flag in BIG10's 'western' division of UCLA/USC and the upstart PAC.

I personally don't think it happens. But it really does feel like there's something more to this Dan Mullen hire. UNLV could easily have landed guys like Neal Brown, Harsin, Rolovich, Mora Jr. All of which would have been viewed as at least decent hires in varying degrees. And all could have been had at a considerably cheaper price.

You have to believe that “something” will happen with conference realignment/expansion… it’s just a matter of UNLV being ready when dominoes start to fall, and I think they will be, or will at least done as much as they could have to be ready.

God only knows when any dominoes are gonna fall, but I don’t think there are too many who believe that they won’t start falling sooner or later.

@utestream is Utah going along with the 22% on Revenue Sharing? Is that a conference wide mandate?
This week, I need to focus on work and community commitments, so (bli neder/without a vow), I cannot get you a quick answer. I don't know offhand. One of former employees and a close friend is a utah alumni with some good connections. I can ask him if I get the opportunity. He would probably know. I can't promise when I could get you an answer. Sorry.

That's it 100%. We've got to be ready. I've always laughed at UNLV/B12 talk but when you get to a point where we are actually ready with NIL, Revenue Sharing, great football and as soon as we can get a good basketball coach it no longer is a laughing subject. The key is to be ready. Our market cannot be ignored.

I posted this video before. He's just a random B12/WVU fan but he puts out some solid content. He brings up some solid points.

Pick up video around the 3:30 mark. Couple really interesting bits of information.
He had me when he said the B12 could get UNLV on the cheap. lol. He would have us at 1/2 share which would be an upgrade for us from our current revenue. And, he doesn't think it will happen until their media contract comes up for renewal. Sounds good to me. I've heard this guy on one of his other podcasts posted here recently. At least he talks good about us and would like to see us in.

Of course we would take half for a number of years.

Thanks for sharing that.

You 100% take a partial share for a few years. It didn't hurt SMU.

With what we make now we were able to go on the road and beat 2 BIG12 teams this year and took an ACC school to OT.

If rumors are true SDSU turned down BIG12 offer of partial share a few years back. What an absolutely short sighted move by that administration.

Just the additional 15,000+ per home football game goes a long way to making up any difference in a half share. Plus the additional 5,000+ per basketball game.

It would also excite new potential boosters.

And it greatly impacts recruiting.

Big difference walking into a recruits house with a B12 patch on your jacket vs a MWC..

This appears to have been posted just after the Syracuse game, UNLV is in a better position and ranked above, and now with the new coach they are even better off!

Yeah it's from 2 months ago. I think the info presented was pretty relevant/interesting in light of Mullen hiring.

I know football is king and all but it wouldnt hurt to get a semi respectable basketball team to go along with our football team, in pursuit of a big 12 offer
