I Feel Bad for CDR

i unraveled my noose and started thinking. as absolutely upset as i am, i know Dave Rice has to be at a stage where i can never be. i don't know if this is why he's all thinned out, due to stress, but i could see it happening.

listening to his interview, you could feel the passion and fury that was going on. no lisp, pure anger, and it was so refreshing to listen to that, rather than the standard BS he gives. you can bet your ass that Wood & Kendrick are getting an ass kicking at practice. he didn't use names but he used "senior" & "sophomore" and that can only mean 2 people because Doolin at least tries. i liked that he called them out.

Rice wants to win in the most desperate way. his name hangs in the rafters (yes, it's not a jersey, but it's still there). he doesn't like getting punked by UNR, Air Force, Boise, Fresneck, or the TCU's of the world. right now, he's the sickest man in the world and i feel bad for him.

I dont. He has dug his own grave. He talked a great game before and after getting hired on all this running and pressing etc., but hasnt done anything he has said he was going to do. The reason for that is that he doesnt have a clue on how to do it or teach the players how to do it. This falls on him and no one else. With the talent he has had the past 3 years, anyone could sit on the sidelines and just roll the ball on the floor and say "go play" and the outcome wouldnt be any different.

There are so many different things you could do with this team and he hasnt done one of them. Starting McCaw over JK because he sucks and is a senior so why not play the freshman who is going to be here 3 more years (hopefully). Press (full or 3/4 court), mix up defenses, create a zone offense, stop running a pro style "offense", turn this team into a 94 foot team not a 47 foot team. He will never figure it out and he needs to look in the mirror as he only has himself to blame.

he said in his interview that they had been changing their defense so much that he didn't want them to be able to change it again.

I dont think Rice is a good coach right now, but there are others that have sucked as coaches early and then figured things out later. This is a very young team and they probably wont start to get better until next year. Whether or not Rice gets better next year, I doubt it, but maybe he will. I'm just as frustrated as anyone with the coaching staff, but I'm thinking they need at least one more year to try and get it together. If they can't finish at the top of the MW next year and make some noise nationally, maybe then it will be time to find a new coach.

Like Krzyzewski? He sucked for a long time. But Duke sucked before him anyway. I will agree with a few people here who have brought up that Kruger didn't leave the cupboard bare here. He left us in really good shape. It's a shame to see that there are so many glaring coaching issues right now. It's the coaches responsibility to coach up the players and have them ready to play regardless of who's name is on the jersey!
