I can’t believe Reno already has 20 wins and is ranked. All because of the poor leadership at UNLV. They have gotten better. We have gotten worse. We might fall into 8th place on Wed night. Not good.

They are probably going to blow us out. They are nearing a sellout. I just hope we don’t drop into 8th place.
As I erroneously stated, on another thread, perhaps his skill as a prognosticator is what got him shown the door from the Confidential Board. Lol...

I have yet to watch the replay, but I have looked over the box score. A few things stand out. Of course I didn’t need a stat sheet to tell me that this was JoJo’s finest game of the season. Probably of his career at UNLV . But it’s an impressive line anyway. He played 39 of the 40 minutes. Hit 11 of 20 shots for 55%. That included 6-12 from beyond the arc. He also went 3-4 at the FT line. It all added up to a nifty 31 pts. In addition, he add 7 boards and 2 assists. Just when I was suggesting that his downside was starting to outweigh his upside. I guess he showed me! Keep showing me JoJo...

Who else?...Juiston in 35 minutes, chipped in 19, on his usual 9-11 (81%) shooting. Just an aside, I’m always slightly amused when a commentator sees Juice for the first time. They can’t believe how fricken’ good he is. We’ve known that from day 1. Ok back to his line. He picked up 12 rebounds to complete his, ho-hum, Just another double-double.

Mooring’s running mate in the backcourt, Jordan Johnson, almost matched him in time served, with 38 minutes. He put in 11 pts on 5-10 shooting. He grabbed 5 boards, and dished out 7 dimes. He was mostly pure point guard again. Obviously Jordy’s capable of big scoring games, but his value to this team, comes as an assist man. Setting up the others to receive the ball in situations that lead to success.

Of course our usual scoring leader found himself nailed to the bench in foul trouble. He managed to log 26 minutes. The time he put in was not productive at all, from the field. He was a sad 1-6. He was however, perfect from the FT line going 6-6. And he grabbed 8 boards, so he showed that he could still be of value, even when his shots are off. Although, considering how accurate he usually is, and that most of his shots come from around the rim, it’s a bit of a shock to see him shoot 17%. But it was obvious that UNR’s game-plan was to double and triple team Brandon. And they roughed him up pretty badly . He’d better get used to that if he has hopes of standing up to the animals that patrol the paint in the NBA, next year. A good reason to spend one more year in college? Mom?

The other Rebel with significant minutes was Amauri Hardy with 26 minutes. He had 8 points, 3 boards and 2 assists. He did most of his damage in the first half, and it was sorely needed at the time.

Nunu chipped in 6 points in 19 minutes of floor-time. Diong had just 3 points amd 2 boards in 9 minutes, due to foul trouble, as well. Together with Brandon, the 5-spot committed 9 fouls. But it worked.

And that was it. Kris Klyburn had one of his several, 0-4 games, and was a non-factor. Menzies has apparently lost all faith in Dembe. Anything else I might have to say will come after I re-watch the game. It’s a win to savor, for a day or so.

Then we must prepare for Wyoming. They will arrive at the T&M with a 17-8 record. More importantly they are 7-5 in MW play. That puts them squarely in our sights to move up in the conference standings, if we can defend the home court. They’ve won 5 of 6, so we must beware of a letdown after the emotional win in Divorcetown, USA.

We didn’t lose

You are a good kid Umeh. It was a great win up there. It did help though that Reno’s best player was out for the game. Rebel fans don’t understand that at all. In any event let’s see if they can beat WYO Saturday night. They have had hard time at home with teams like this. I’m glad they won last night!!

I think we clearly understand that arguably their best player was out injured, but we just don't care. It was a road win over a top 2 team in the conference who is also UNR. After the way they acted and ran up the score last year when we had a Juco team, it seems as if you expect our fans to mourn the fact or apologize for beating them on their home floor because they had a guy out. It happens and they still have more than enough talent on the team that they should have been able to take care of business.

I think the optimism is more about how the game went. McCoy spent a good chunk of the game on the bench, but we still dominated the boards and played well. Yes... Mooring was insane, but he's a streaky shooter and this could be the start of a hot streak, which makes the team very dangerous.

We played well enough to win at Boise last weekend, and if a play here or there went our way (true of every game) or a call here or there went our way (will never happen with MW refs), we could have come back from the trip 2-0. We didn't, but even coming back 1-1 was better than I think most of us realistically expected.

The games against SDSU, @Boise, and @UNR gave us reason to be optimistic. They showed not only that when the team plays hard and plays together that they can beat anyone in this conference, but they showed that this team CAN ACTUALLY show up and play hard and together for more than a few minutes here or there.

Of course, we have the SJSU game in there, which shows the continuing concern that the team will continue to play up or down to the perceived level of competition. We should beat Wyoming on Saturday. They are a good team, but they aren't as good away from Laramie. They don't have the big name, but they are ahead of us in the standings and this really is a big game as far as MW Tournament seeding goes. If the team from the SDSU/BSU/UNR game shows up, we should win comfortably. If the team from the SJSU game shows up, we are probably looking at a loss. This is a big opportunity for Menzies to show he can keep the team focused and avoid a let down after Wednesday's big win.

I agree. It is okay for the fans to do some chest pounding. Even though Reno’s best player was out. We haven’t been able to do some chest pounding in a while. Last year’s team was an embarrassment! Do you guys think they can beat Wyoming?

No, we understand just fine. All teams have issues. Injuries are just part of the game. Did the Rebels have any issues last season? How about their entire team leaving? How about, they were a collection of D-2 players, masquerading as the Rebels, thanks to an incompetent AD?

Those were a few of the issues that UNLV had to deal with last year. And yet the yokels up in Sparks thought nothing of bringing in the “Let’s Get Ready to Rumble” guy. Because a dump like that will never land an actual big fight. And they chose to rush the floor, as if they’d just knocked off Kansas for the National Championship. So, they should take their whiney-asses back to the boonies and shut-the-hell-up about their best player on the bench.

Losers whine, winners suck it up.

You got me there. Because of that incompetent AD we had the worst team in the school’s history last year. TKM is useless.
