It’s bizarre. Aside from … basically SJSU? Seems like every team since 2001 has been atop the MWC besides UNLV. Or at least having a real chance at the regular season title with a week or two to go.Of seeing the same old top teams without unlv year in and year out!

Well, yeah.I’m talking nationally
I know what you are saying. That’s pretty much where we are at.I've accepted that we will not be a top tier program in my lifetime. I'd be very happy with being in MWC champ contention the last five reg season games every two/three years or so and a NCAA appearance every 5 years.
Question is....What does Wyoming, Utah State, and Colorado State have that we don't ? Better coaches, recruiting, facilities ?????I know what you are saying. That’s pretty much where we are at.
That’s the slippery slope of accepting and celebrating mediocrity and less than mediocrity. Allows for a “new normal” when not enough people fight back, even worse, when too many people enable it.

Stability, competent athletic departments, productive synergy between school admin and the athletic department. If UNLV had these qualities we'd be a top 40 program at least, have a respectable football program and probably be a favorite to land a spot in the next P5 expansion because of our facilities and the fact we're a hot up-and-coming sports town.Question is....What does Wyoming, Utah State, and Colorado State have that we don't ? I feel ya. I keep my expectations grounded in the current reality but still hope for a return to being a consistent top 25 program. I know that will take time as there is not top-name coach bearing down our door. Regardless, I actually think CKK has the ability turn it around. We just need to be patient and allow him to work thru a rebuilding process. Bringing UNLV back is not going to be easy.Supporting UNLV basketball for me (in order for it to be enjoyable) means coming to grips that we are a fringe top 100 team. We are by no means,....in any way a top 25 college basketball program. We used to be.. a long long time ago. we were the best. We might get to a sweet 16 here or there every 10-15 years or so. Maybe get ranked every 10 years or so, but we will NEVER be a top program again in our lifetime. If you believe differently, you are going to be met with a lot of angst, frustration and disappointment being a Rebel hoops fan.
UNLV could hire John Wooden and the admin would still screw that up. One guy can't turn around the mess. we have. A real commitment to athletics has to come from the top. CKK can improve our program, but we still have idiots at the top handcuffing him.. for instance the mask mandate for attendees at the T&M. Stupid shit like that. No wonder Beard bolted after two weeks. Do you blame him ?I

I just would like to see us get to the final four of the mwc tournament. it's been a whileOf seeing the same old top teams without unlv year in and year out!
You just never know, there aren’t guarantees. Take a coach like Howland, who has had a pretty damn good career. Seems to be more in that “won’t miss” boat based on his history. Now Miss State isn’t a juggernaut itself, but he’s built his own brand, sending lots of players to the league. And it’s a ridiculously competitive/high level league, a league where funny recruiting is “allowed”. Yet in 7 years, he’s essentially a 500 coach at 2M per year and he will have one NCAAT to his credit and that was a first round loss. A lot of money for a garbage ROI.UNLV could hire John Wooden and the admin would still screw that up. One guy can't turn around the mess. we have.
