a chance to REALLY build an already good resume. WSU is going to be an NCAAT tourney team when the dust settles. It sucks because this is one, unlike the UCLA loss (IMO), UNLV coulda/shoulda won.

I complain about officiating having a direct impact in a UNKV game three or four games per year. This is the first. It was beyond awful. The charge called on Pat was ludicrous - the guy was moving and one foot was off the ground. Insult to injury, the basket would have counted. Ike's steal at the end was clean and would have resulted in a tie game. That's just two of the few really poor calls.

But you have to expect crappy calls on the road. Have to adjust.

The guards were bad nearly across the board. Hindsight being 20/20, Poyser needed more burn. Way too many careless turnovers. Can't do that against a good defensive team on the road, you just can't. I hope we don't see anymore outings like that from Pat. And if we do, SOMEBODY has got to pick up the slack. Nobody did.

The 50/50 balls ended up about 90/10 WSU. That's typically the sign of a hungrier team, which is something that worried me heading in. They are wounded, but they are prideful and they are at home. Along those lines, WSU can't get us for that many offensive rebounds. A few missed block outs killed.

Defensively, the Rebs did well enough to win and they did a good job on Van Vleet in the second half. At some point I wish refs would start calling his push offs and use of shoulder shoves. I know he's an AA, but man, give me a break.

On the bright side, it was a game the Rebs could afford to drop but given that they played so poorly and had a shot, they are going to kick themselves. It's one where you'd love a mulligan.

More bright spots - quite honestly, I was watching for a fold job when they got down early. Just out of habit, not because I think this team is the same. Though they didn't play well, I saw effort, I didn't see lost focus, I didn't see give up. They fought to stay on top of the quicksand instead of just sinking.

Disappointment aside, I didn't see any huge reason for chronic concern. But I'm still aggravated we lost because we played so poorly and it was a golden opportunity to bolster the resume.
