Most professional leagues can't compete with that type of pay outside of the NBA. NBA lowest paid player makes $1.15 million with an average of around $12 million. Most upper level European and Asian leagues have a bottom end of around $50,000 with a top out of around $3-4 million, while many of the lower level leagues pay under $20K per year.
If nothing else, it's going to result in a lot more foreign players coming to the US for college.
That explains why we have a lot of bench players.
