Here is how you handle a tough transition

AD to SA should have gone like this...

Stacey, I wanted to talk to you first as you are the longest tenured assistant on the staff and a rebel legend. As a rebel legend we felt it's best to protect you through this transition. As you are probably aware the success rate of Interim coaches is not great. An interim is either made official or let go at the end of the interim period. There is never an option to move an interim coach back to an assistant under a new regime as it causes a conflict of leadership. Who do the players take their orders from, the head coach or the former head coach?

We would like to keep the option open of retaining you as part of the rebel family now and into the future. For this reason we are not going to offer you the interim position, as we do not feel we are in a position to retain an interim coach at the end of the season with or without success.

You are very important to us and we feel this decision is the best intersection of both of our interests. It keeps all of our collective options open at the end of the season. I hope to retain you as part of the rebel family once this transition is over and hope that you can see our position as beneficial to you.
