Talking with the buddy I sit with at games, texts I sent to TE today... For whatever reason, I fully expected tonight. In fact, I said it was going to go down like last year's UNR game or the ASU game a couple weeks ago. It was just a visceral feeling that was strong the last three days.

That was an abomination. But it was wash, rinse, repeat. Mistakes galore and we can go over them one by one and take up three pages, but to me, the bottom line is, ONCE AGAIN, UNLV doesn't have a point guard. I never jumped on the Jerome bandwagon from day one even though others said how good he was going to be in this role. I just didn't see it. I saw it sometimes, but not regularly, and that's the one spot were consistency is absolutely vital. I don't think he's a bad player - he has value. But not at the point. He's not a PG. He'll have some good games as PG, but like I said, you need consistency there and UNLV has none. UNM is struggling with it right now, too. You're going to be far less than the sum of your parts without good point guard play. Outside of a couple players, the overall team IQ is very low.

I'm not blaming tonight's loss on Jerome. He's trying, just not a great role for him. Between very bad turnovers, horrible decisions with the ball, slowing the attack when they were in foul trouble, players who have been on three week breaks, missed easy transition buckets, inopportune rebounding, missed bunnies (again), a lack of urgency.... Just another horrific performance. And pretty soon, the entire league is just playing for the MWCT seedings, if it's not already.

Ultimately, it all lies at Rice's feet. He's the head of the program. We can blame this player for this, that player for that.... It's Rice's deal to handle and he will either lose his position or he'll have to flip a light switch in a room that might not even have a light bulb.

Don't know exactly what is was - the latest memory of the Rebels before tonight was a team that played very well (against South Dakota). Even with that, have had this dire, sinking feeling.

To me it feels like we are already playing out the string until the MWCT. Every couple of wins is just a stay of execution. Every bad half is another nail. Maybe that's over-reaction, maybe it's realistic. I don't know at this point.

Just wish hadn't seen this movie so many times.
