People are taking notice of what Sanchez is doing. I said it in another thread, X's and O's aside, Sanchez is doing things nobody has done. Can you imagine if UNLV had hired another top assistant from some out-of-state program? They wouldn't even know what to do because they would show up and be too focused on just coaching football. We would see more of the same, nothing unique, and the exact same issues that have always existed would still exist, and the program would continue floundering. 30 years has proven that.
Sanchez, on the other hand, is a completely different breed of coach. He's a marketing guy, a promoter, a motivator, and a football coach. He's progressive in his thinking and his vision of what Las Vegas football is about is what drives him to action. We haven't seen Sanchez coach a single game yet, and I expect he'll need to grow and develop in that area. He has a terrific staff and he's smart so I think he'll adapt quicker than most predict. But off the field he's absolutely building a program and creating a stylish new brand.
The difference is after 5 years at UNLV Sanford exits the program by complaining about the locker rooms. Conversely, on day 1 Sanchez begins by ripping out all of the carpet from the football offices and he's been building every day since. Already he's done more than Sanford or Hauck did over the past decade combined.
I just hope Las Vegas supports Sanchez big time because we're lucky to have him, imo. As a fanbase, we need to help him build Las Vegas football into something special. The culture can't change from one man's efforts alone. It takes everyone together. Winning will open up more possibilities. The new stadium is a necessity, and UNLV needs to finally rise up and become a big time showcase program prominently featured in the entertainment capital of the world and throughout all of college football.
