Last year and the prior year were excellent recruiting years. Depending on the service we were ranked top or second each of those years.

But this year it looks like recruiting is dropping off. The top two rated MWC teams have 16 and 17committed players, whereas we only have 7. Could it be the constant losing is catching up with us? I'm fearful we'll be back to Hauck like recruiting where the last day we get whoever is leftover after they didn't get the school/s they really wanted. More leftovers. A program can stand a year of down recruiting - but not year after year. Arroyo needs to keep/start winning to show recruits they aren't throwing away their playing career in a lousy program.

The losing may be part of it. But if I'm not mistaken the rankings of the players we do have are high...So the numbers are low-ish, but quality is pretty good.

With how the portal works now, I'm not so sure there may not be a little more wait and see approach maybe? I don't know..

You're correct on the ratings. We average second in the ratings. But football is much more a numbers game than other sports. You do need quality but also quantity. In the past two years we've had both. Still three months to go but I'd be way happier if we were keeping pace.

Well, I think we have 10 rides left assuming no seniors get extra eligibility and no transfers out. I think neither is going to be true at the end of the day, but i think it would be safe to say you'd have probably 12 rides not counting any grayshirts.

I'm not sure how to take the fact that we haven't signed more, are we trying to sneak in a poach some of those high major guys who end up falling out of a schollie late? Are some going to walkons for rewards?

Regardless, I think it's safe to say we're not done recruiting.

Agree..

Always throw Air Force out though...Different allotment allowed.

Yeah, it's curious that we have so few signees. Maybe they're going to try to fill in with more JuCo or transfer guys this year to fill some of the depth issues and spots of highest need. I mean, nothing against guys coming right out of HS, but there aren't many that will be ready to play immediately.

Maybe Arroyo can get some of the guys that he recruited while he was at Oregon, but aren't getting much run at their current schools, to come to UNLV for a new start. We'll see.

Based on 247 rankings for football recruits, UNLV has the 7th ranked class in the MWC but by far the highest rated per player in the MWC. UNLV has an average rating of 84.61 per player, SDSU is at 84.25 and BSU is at 84.02. UNLV also lagged the last couple of years in regards to getting all of their recruit early, so it really isn't that big of a deal. SDSU picked up 5 of their recruits in the last month. Only BSU, SDSU and Utah State have over 8 commits as of yet, and the Utah State recruits are of a low level of quality based on rankings.

Think they will go heavy in transfer portal.

I'm fine with going transfer portal, 5th year guys and JUCO to an extent. Downside to some degree is a sometimes revolving door at certain position groups.

Ideally (at least in my opinion) In a class of say 25. 18-20 freshman 5-7 transfer guys.

That said, if its transfer guys with 3 years eligibility I'm fine with more. But 1-2 year guys, I'd prefer to see fewer.

Preferably stop gaps vs trying to build with, if that makes sense.

Not sure where this latest batch puts us. Prior we were 7th in conference, but had the highest ranked grading avg.

Was he highly rated?

Lost commitment
I was talking about Myron Green, #1 JUCO DE. I’ve heard it’s better than 50/50, but he’s hearing from the “other Rebels” which obviously is a scary notion. I’m also hearing Lane Kiffin probably won’t be back at Ole Miss and that’s a reason we’d get him.

Both guys are top 40 national JuCo guys (Thompkins is at top 10).

We really need a big WR who can get those combat catches--apparently the guy averaged almost 17 yards a catch. I thought our WR corps has been a little lackluster with too many drops and not enough tough catches.

I was asking if our lost commit was a big deal.

I do hope that we get Green.

Yeah, we especially seemed to have a lot of drops when Brumfield was throwing rockets at them. You don't have to be the fastest guy on the field to be a good WR. Be smart, run good routes and have good hands and you'll put up some numbers.

Earlier poster said we only have 10 scholarships available. I'd say we about done if that is correct.

According to this we are losing 17 seniors. Plus a team normally loses 3-4 players during the off season.

That list is completely wrong and outdated.

It would be nice if there was an updated list somewhere. The extra year given to players who want it makes this even more confusing. Only players that are gone for sure would be any “super” seniors. The list of these players is here:

From what I can read, Aubrey Scott was a mid level recruit with a rating of 74 which would rate him somewhere between 35-50 ranked recruit in the conference and at best a mid level recruit for UNLV. Losing one of the 3 players ranked above him would be a huge hit, but he isn't as big of a loss. My expectations are since he has been getting a look from Michigan, and a few other schools in recent months, he has decided to test the water again!

I couldn't find anything regarding Myron Green even considering UNLV and from what I can see UNLV is not on his radar? The only thing I did see is he reposted the most recent UNLV commits, is that where that came from? Is there new I haven't seen that shows his interest in UNLV?

Schools who were on him are cooling a bit. Just what I had heard. We offered him last spring, one of the first to offer him.

The two SF City College guys are loud in his ear. They were teammates before he transferred to the MS JUCO.

Reno just offered Scott as an offensive lineman so maybe UNLV wanted to keep him on defense and he wants to switch sides
