Retiring. Making a few parting shots at NIL.

But Koetter then said Boise State is “behind right now” in the NIL game.

“Our best players are getting offered between 2 and 10 times what we can offer,” Koetter wrote. “We are losing recruits in the portal to schools that are just flat outbidding us. I know it’s not all about the money, and Coach D and staff will undoubtedly continue to find the ‘right kind of guys,’ but money is an issue.”

He went on Facebook and ranted about how they cant compete with the NIL offers being given to their players by other schools. trying to get more donations.
No different for most FBS non-P4 schools. Hopefully, we can also get the revenue sharing started. We need to put our foot on their throat now so we can become the best of the best G6 schools.

He’s right. And eventually it’ll cause a permanent chasm, whether with the big boys completely breaking away or it’s kept the way it’s going ….

And then it comes down to fanbases, tbh, because that’s where the money is going to come from. Is a state going to fund from their budget? I don’t see that.

Of the non-powers, who has the best year to year support and some longevity? I’d think Boise is up there. I think UNLV can get to that point or better, just based upon the city. But can you imagine San Jose asking their fans to open their pocketbooks a lot more? New Mexico?

The rich will get richer, the not so rich will get more poor.

It’s almost a microcosm of society with elites vs non-elites.

The return on investment for most of these schools is almost NIL. Why would people throw away $$$ just so your team can go to meaningless bowl game?? Basketball a different story. A couple good players and a few solid ones can go a long way. IMO all the offers should be made public. That way schools and boosters know exactly what other teams are offering. Their agents are doing a lot of lying i would assume.

Plus allow kids get multiple degrees. That way it spreads out the talent. Having a good 6-7th year player VS a 4-5* freshman or sophomore . Wont be as much separation. The college athletes wanted this so it has to work both ways. IT survival of the fittest correct?? Less scholarships ,because some of these fringe DIV 1 players will be playing in DIV II and so forth a trickle down effect. IT NOT ABOUT A EDUCATION ANYMORE ,REALLY NEVER WAS.

Would it even playing field? IT wont ,but at least it would narrow the gap a bit. I absolutely hate the TOP P4 schools AND PLAYERS acting like they are special. YOUR not in terms of fairness. It like playing MAGIC ( NEVER PLAYED IT) and having a starters deck vs someone that spent $$. Yea u might get lucky ,but odds are your going to lose.

Playing for a winner and being a winner does not go hand in hand. How about some competitive nature and want to beat the best and not being ON THE BEST!

Coaches are upset because they can't keep players but nil has also made a lot of good players not starting on Top teams available to other schools. Its become all about recruiting out of the portal and less from high-school. The teams with money have always had an advantage. UnLV was 1 game from being in the playoff in a year Alabama didn't make it.. Everyone has got to get used to having huge turnover every year. It does make things interesting at least.

Did they? I know FedEx gave Memphis $25 million for NIL to be spread out over 5 years.

'Boise State Athletics Receives Historic $25M Gift from Allen and Billie Dee Noble Estate. BOISE, Idaho – Boise State Athletics has received a $25 million estate gift from longtime champions of the Broncos, Allen and Billie Dee Noble.'

So not directly NIL. But 25 million is 25 million. 😁

That's earmarked for their 300 million dollar athletic compound theyre trying to get funding for. Some field side bar seating, an indoor basketball court complex, etc.. Not directly related to football but I imagine thats where that money is heading not to NIL

Exactly. That's what I was saying. It's not for NIL, but 25 million is 25 million. It opens opportunity to move money around.

Interesting to watch Boise openly cry about their inability to recruit in the NIL era. They are coming off a CFP appearance and Jeanty building all kinds of media hype for them, free advertising basically for Boise. Not to mention they are moving to the PAC, which will actually cost them money in the short term.

It is just another sign where they are not going to a better situation. Openly saying your community cannot support your program relative to the other programs and their communities is not a good place to be, imo.

By the way, doesn’t the MW keep their CFP payouts as part of their exit/penalty fee?
Yes. And the CFP money doesn't go directly to the school. It's paid out like NCAA credits to the conference who then gives it to each team. That's why they got the added 50% credit keep in the Pac 12 language. ND on the other hand gets to keep all it's money as they're independents...

Boise has reached their zenith. They can't possibly do more than what they've already done moving forward in the new world of CFB.

Yup. They might have the name recognition but they're stuck in G5 land for eternity in their new G5 conference.

Those are typically part of the negotiations. So not necessarily, but with previous negotiations most schools give up the CFP/NCAAT credits to reduce their cost up front.

They are crying because it sucks to be G5. They just lost in part because they lose so many of their better players to P4 schools just like us. I don't they are crying comparing themselves to p4 schools.
As for losing money up front? That is TBD. After negotiations it is very possible that they still will be making more. Depends on the PAC contract and how they pay off fees. Especially if the PAC helps at all.

Doesn't it suck for BSU who has always had a huge advantage over the rest of the MWC with the extra money that they get every year from the conference that they will now be at a disadvantage as well as soon to lose that extra money. I will laugh my ass off as UNLV slowly passes them by and eventually leaves them in the dust!

Boise fans think they played Pedo State even. I won't be sad to see the backside of those clowns and I hope we give them a nice sending out next year.

This might be their “Mike Sanford moment” where the realization of their NIL (for us the locker rooms) situation is smacking them in the face. Either improve that significantly or be stuck at the Silver Bowl (metaphorically).

Honestly with how their football program has been and the local market support it's criminal their stadium lacks modernization and has a sub 40k attendance max. They could easily put 50k there but instead of being able to sell the stadium expansion alone, they're adding a bunch of "athletes village" amenities attached instead and actually reducing capacity for those suites.

The kill for them is that UNLV ticket prices are double what they sell tickets for, and they are trying to find a way to squeeze more money out of their boosters. UNLV ticket sales next year could bring in 3-5 times as much money as BSU can make depending on how well ticket sale go for UNLV. Now that UNLV is using the Wynn club for NIL support, that puts another huge boost in financing that BSU doesn't have the ability to match. Add in all of the casino/hotel money, and all of the other business support that has come aboard lately and that gave UNLV the ability to pay their coach 3X what BSU pays their coach.

From an outsider standpoint, public actions by both WSU and BSU hurt the public perception of them. As I said before, of the Pac MWC whatever, UNLV positioned itself as having the best shot to move up to a P whatever conference. However, it does not guarantee that it will happen. In other words, while others bet on the Pac whatever, UNLV tripled down on itself.
