I had to go out this morning. Just really excited to take a look at the new guys and just in general see how well they were going through their paces on an extremely cool Vegas morning.
Three guys with the DB's caught my eye. Soli Afalava, Evan Austria and Javin White are all incoming freshman that don't physically look like freshman. Big, strong and athletic young men. Also I need to mention Jay'On Myles. He is extremely quick but not very big. Seemed to be very coachable and was picking things up quickly.
Dalton Sneed was taking reps with the other 3 QB's that came out of Spring. All 3 still look good. Sneed has a long way to go to catch up but they are giving him the opportunity. Decker was getting the bulk of the snaps today. Had a nice TD pass to Aaron Criswell I believe.
The running backs looked fairly good but you never know till the pads go on. The 2 Houston Freshmen both look good. Lexington Thomas is a speed burner. Don't be overly surprised if we have come up with a new 4 year starter in Xzavier Campbell. Good top end speed and has good quickness and moves. And at 5'11' and 220 he could pack a punch when he hits the hole. Very excited to see him develop.
I know that everyone wants to know about Salanoa-Alo wily. He didn't do a whole lot today but as they were going through technique drills it is obvious that he possesses extreme athleticism and speed for his size. He is like a block of granite at 6'0'' and 290.
I didn't have enough time to really look at everything and everyone but I wanted to mention some of the freshmen. The incoming Freshmen all left the field about 2/3 of the way through practice. Not sure what that was all about. Probably some NCAA rule of some sort. Shoulder pads go on Monday. Don't be shocked to see a lot of the freshmen on the field this fall.

You mean because the Freshman appear physically ready, because the Rebs are thin, or both?

Thanks for the write and sharing your thoughts. Wish I could be there myself. Might make a trip out the week of 8/21.

They look ready. Rebs were thin at D Line, Running Backs and D Backs heading into this fall but hopefully Sanchez has brought in enough talent to shore those areas up. And yes I expect some of these freshmen to step up and beat out some of the experienced players.

The freshman might have had paperwork or other meetings related to NCAA policies that they had to attend to. .

I'm glad Afalava at least looks the part. That means there's something to work with. For some reason I felt that we wouldn't get Wily if we didn't take Afalava, too, and I didn't want it to be a wasted schollie.

Thanks for the notes, Pete!

Can you compare the looks between thomas and campbell? I think someone mentioned that thomas might be used as a slot receiver or a kick returner. I thought cambell might be able to evolve into the next tim cornett, with his size.

With Thomas build ( he is 5'9 170) and skill set ( great first step and top end speed) I could see him being used as a guy who motions out of the backfield or used in the screen game.

Campbell is 6' 220 and looks like he has potential to an all around every down back.

Both have some obvious catching up to do on Whitely and Greene but I thin Sanchez will give them an opportunity to earn their way onto the field.

Reading the RJ article on Tenpenny, did he standout among the backs looking toward next season.

Tenpenny looks like a beast. Our offense has weapons w tenpenny, and boyd next year. We need one or two more recievers we should have the arsenal necessary to win more games.
