I think bowl eligibility should be the bar. What were realistic expectations under Odom for next year? We were losing a lot. Would 6 wins be about right? If the next coach only wins 6 will that be okay?
1. Bowl eligibilityI think bowl eligibility should be the bar.
Unless we go the Sanchez, Arroyo, Hauck route. Which we won’t.
I think he planned on leaving all along and put everything into this season knowing there was a good chance at the playoff. Make the playoff and get a huge pay day at a good P4. Come close and get a huge payday at a bottom of the barrel P4.What were realistic expectations under Odom for next year? We were losing a lot. Would 6 wins be about right? Well, even if there is a path forward, its certainly not here now and it won’t be here next year. If Odom changed his mind tomorrow, would Harper say no?Only thing that might have stopped this was if the BIG12 were actually on table in next two years. Otherwise he wasn't here for the long haul.

If you think Harper wouldn’t say no to Odom coming back tomorrow, would he say no to Odom coming back if we make it to the big12?
Point if the question, did Odom/ Harper burn the bridge with each other on this?Too hypothetical to wrap my head around. 😀
But with the departure of Odom, you're going to see a number of quality players leaving too. It's already begun. So while I think six is a good number of wins for next year, it might be a reach if other players leave and our freshman class decide to go elsewhere.next years schedule isn’t terrible so I think 7-8 wins was probably realistic even with the loss of seniors. Good thing about getting somewhat of a jump is hopefully hit that portal.

9 wins and a conference championship...What were realistic expectations under Odom for next year? We were losing a lot. Would 6 wins be about right? If the next coach only wins 6 will that be okay?
I’ll go 4/5 wins and a lot of concern regarding some of the bad losses but we’ll have but also a little hope for the following season that will turn out be more of the same. I hope by season 3 they turn the corner and get bowl eligible again.3 wins. Half the team will leave. The replacements will be far less talented. We'll look more like New Mexico than Boise. The Cannon will go blue.
So more of what we've always had?I’ll go 4/5 wins and a lot of concern regarding some of the bad losses but we’ll have but also a little hope for the following season that will turn out be more of the same. I hope by season 3 they turn the corner and get bowl eligible again.
I really can't make any judgement on next season yet until finding out who we hire for the next coach. I'm optimistic though, given the dollar amount that we paid Odom, and how much we were prepared to offer him to return. With similar money, we should be able to get a quality coach. Aside from that, the next big questions for me are, who will the coordinators be, and how many current players can they keep.My expectations for next season was 8 or more wins and a bowl. We were losing 30+ guys. However, we had a solid incoming class, and 100% were setup to crush the portal with so many openings. Oh well. Now, my expectation is still hopefully a bowl eligible season. So much rides on next season for our entire athletic department. After next season, we will fade into irrelevance if we dont have a move lined up. Another season of solid football, increasing attendance, and TV eyeballs was what we needed to move closer to a Big12 invite. Hopefully we can get a coach that will keep us moving in that direction.
Definitely better than where we were but for sure below where we would be with Odom. What will make it harder is there won't be instant success like Odom had and it will take to year 2 or 3 before getting back to a bowl game.So more of what we've always had?
