Name gaining the most traction. Slam dunk hire for UNLV if they pulled it off.

Ed would kill it in this city. Who doesn't want to see that guy get introduced at next Knights game, wind the goal horn and break it!

Sure Ed as purely an X and O guy might be behind a guy like a Patterson or Peterson, but he can recruit, he could put a staff together I'm sure and makes UNLV a player in the portal.

It will also allow me to create the Ed Orgeron secret decoder ring for press conferences so people can understand what the hell he's saying.

Make this happen UNLV. Not just for football but so I can be rich off the royalties of the secret decoder ring..

We were both thinking about this at the same time apparently. I'd be very happy to get any of those 4 guys I mentioned in the other post, so yeah, I'd be on board with Ed O for sure.

If it ends up not being a big hire I will vent ad nauseam. Complain. Declare I am done with UNLV football.

And then trudge down to Thomas and Mack sad Charlie Brown music playing and renew my tickets wondering why I do this to myself.

Me too. Mostly because my kids tell me they love going to the games with me. Until it’s game day when they tell me how boring they are and they’d rather stay home.

You gotta have to find reasons why some of these names would have legit interest in UNLV.

Herman? UNLV similar situation to UH where he had the most success. Was impressed with our facilities when touring. Not exactly P5 right now, but borderline.

Patterson. Probably the biggest stretch. Though word was that he wasn't a fan of being a head coach at the very top. With the recruiting/media/expectations. UNLV would fit in with his preferred recruiting style.

Ed O: Probably to closest to J Rob in terms of candidates. He is old enoiugh to retire, especially after that last buyout.

Quirky dude that is lovable. Would love Las Vegas, and we would love him back. Had interest in the position in the past.

For sure top notch (reasonable) hire.

The last time UNLV won a bowl game was the last time they hired a National Championship winning coach. The High School coaches, hot shot coordinators, and FCS guys haven't worked out, so why not go back to what did work.

I’m addition to all of those Things, I said here a couple of times, he gets kids to run through walls for him. His players live him. We he didn’t get the SC job, the players were pissed.

I think we're actually trying to be helpful here though, right? No offense. We don't need any reasons for Harper to not want to pull off a deal on a good coach
 
Just saw this thread. Unless we just made Joel Osteen as Spiritual Leader at UNLV to get us $$$ we don’t have $9 million a year to pay Ed O. I will stick with Gary Patterson and still expect a UNLV surprise of the DC from Washington State hire.

Who knows what people's motivations are, or if he'd be able to get 9 million anywhere these days. Yeah, he had a big contract at LSU, but now, he got a huge buyout and already has a pretty high net worth. Maybe he'd take a lower salary with some incentives to get back in as a HC.
 
Pitt alum but 18 year resident of lv who has adopted the rebels. O would be a name but he is not an overall good hc. The key is to give him the money for quality assistants. THEN he has to be ceo and hands off on o and d. They hired cananda at lsu and o ran him into the ground by not allowing him to run his system. It was square peg and round hole scenario for what o wanted and what Canada actually does. They shouldn't have hired Canada or o should have stayed out of it.

1st week AD - "We are going after a head coach with experience running a D1 program"
2nd week AD- "We want a candidate with head coaching experience but not necessary"
3rd week AD - "We want a head coach who has at least been a college coach at any level"
4th week AD - "We will accept a high school coach if he had won a national championship"
5th week AD - "We will take any coach from any sport who has a winning record"
6th week AD - "We have hired Menzies as are new football coach"
