DRF to mizzou

In my opinion, this looks like collusion and back room dealing here, and very poorly conducted at that, but I have no issue with others forming their own conclusions.

I could understand a degree of suspicion and paranoia about the June visit after how this last week transpired. It piqued the curiosity of Mizzou fans as well. Most likely, in my opinion, it was coincidental but I wouldn't be all that shocked if I were to learn it was somehow related. Even if this was orchestrated by the Mizzou administration for a few months, why would UNLV fans really mind? DRF's name has been linked to plenty of P5 schools in the past. It looks pretty apparent that she wanted to make a jump. If there was some secret deal in place between her and Mizzou, it seems to me that Jim Sterk would be the one that should be really frustrated. It doesn't shock me that a MWC AD would have interest in a P5 job and would potentially listen if they are courted.

The thing that is perplexing to me is that if she is bad at hiring coaches, has created a toxic environment at UNLV, and rubbed donors the wrong way, then why did DRF get a contract extension and significant pay raise in April? I admit that I am not all that familiar with her. The first time I can recall hearing her name was back in the spring when there were some reports linking Cuonzo Martin to the UNLV basketball job. Several people pointed out that she had played a big role in hiring him at Tennessee and supposedly had a great relationship with him. Maybe she will be a big disappointment for those of us in Columbia...I have no idea how it will turn out.

Thank you faurotfield, I appreciate your comments. UNLV is nothing but delighted that DRF is gone. My own opinion is that any potential impropriety here just further evidences DRF’s lack of character and integrity. Totally agree that Jim Sterk would be the most aggrieved party here (again, those at UNLV are overjoyed DRF is gone.). As to DRF’s recent contract extension at UNLV prior to her departure, most at UNLV were disgusted at this. Other UNLV staff were subject to furlough pay reductions, DRF had just underhandedly cut the staffing, hours and pay of UNLV Athletics staff, and she lobbied for a pay raise among this - this is horrible and shows her selfishness, complete disregard of her team, and complete inability to be a leader of anything. My opinion is that UNLV leadership who extended here contract with a big pay raise were disconnected and tone deaf, and made a very bad determination - this leadership lost a lot of respect on campus due to this item. However, it is sadly not uncommon that university leadership is disconnected from the realities of what is occurring in university departments, resulting in making some very bad and tone deaf decisions - like this truly awful one.

Midterm, apparently, you are very close to the situation. That is a good thing. So often we posters pop off opinions without real knowledge.
So, inside information is really appreciated. Thank you.
BTW, having been close in the past, I should remind you, going forward, that we have to be careful about what we divulge. Not everything is for publication.
But, once again, thanks.

Lawsuits? This is a message board for crying out loud!

Lawsuits? What the. Hell are you talking about.?
When you work closely with people, sharing everything with a message board may not be good for those relationships.
Gotta admit, 91, you are good. You can even take a post thanking someone, and turn it negative.

When I first started in my career I would always worry about what other people would think and learned not to rock the boat, this went as far as to not get involved in a class action lawsuit against in engineering firm that was forcing employees to work unlimited hours without additional pay. Ultimately those who were willing to rock the boat ended up with a pocket full of money while those who stayed quite got nothing. The next time something similar to that happened to me, the company was forcing employees to break federal laws if they wanted to stay around, so I ended up telling the employees not to do as the manager was telling them because it would be them that ended up in jail not the boss. It ended up costing me my job, but i was no longer timid, and instead left and started my own company. I then used my connection to go after their clients ultimately putting them out of business within a year.

My point is that as I got older I learned that those who refuse to be stepped on and are willing to fight back are the ones who get ahead in the long run. If you are telling the truth, and that hurts someone else, then they are someone you do not want to be associated with. It appears DRF was able to run roughshod over her department because they either didn't care, had no other job options, or are too cowardly to fight back.

Maybe you need to mention that something is your opinion 5 more times per post before the police stop worrying for you that you may get sued.

Some people want to control every situation, unless they are following the directive of their leader. Haha

I am just getting too old! First, I get criticized for complimenting a poster.
Then, comes one about police and suits that I can't understand at all.

BTW, the caution I was giving had nothing to do with wrong doing not being exposed.
It had to do with exposing innocent people who share something with you that they would not like posted on a message board. You post it, it comes back on them, and they get hurt, having done nothing wrong.

The post by Mizter was one full of information. I thanked him for it. Glad he was able to share inside info. Stated that several times.

BTW, I did not go after 91. He went after me. No big deal.
BC just despises me, and if I wrote that it looked like rain, he would post that I had no right to comment on the weather. Again, no big deal.

We are all fans. Most of us are frustrated. Let’s just hope UNLV get some of the issues resolved. You are right. We should be going after the school not posters voicing their opinion.

You are amazing at playing a victim until you start by calling someone a racist. Then you say ‘sorry’ and expect the previous accusation to just go away.

Other than that, you’re the victim 100% of the time.

Stop your nonsense. The lecturing gets old.

Ok, since bc wants to make this public, here is the story.
About 4 or 5 years ago, in a private message, I wrote him that something he had posted could be read as racist. Not him, but the post. After privately, again, discussing it with him, I apologized for making it seem that I was calling him a racist.
I did not 6hen, nor do I now, believe he is a bigot. I never posted an accusation, and have apologized privately and publicly several times. I do so once again. It was a misunderstanding. I am sorry for my part.

Since then, bc, unable to look past it, has publicly assailed me numerous times. I call him on it.That is what he is referring to with the victim crap.. Continued whining about a misunderstanding years ago is childish. His refusal to accept the apologies is whatever it is.
If bc hasn't blocked me, I am sure he will delete this post. He is a moderator, of course.
Bc, enough. Move on. We don't need to be pals. Just decent.

Returning to the thread, and my first post, it is really good to read specific things like Mizter posted. Most folks agree that losing DRF is not a disaster. We can easily generalize about the damage to the program.

But Mizter's post was filled with actual instances and actions, some of which I had not heard. They explain a lot. I do criticize sometimes when thing just get thrown against tge wall. I accept that a message board is expressly for that.

But, learning stuff was really great. Thanks, Mizter.

All - a few recent quotes below from a March 2021 LVRJ article from major UNLV Athletics donors about the men’s basketball program, about 1 month prior to DRF getting a contract extension (in my opinion, a horrifically bad decision vs sending her packing without delay.) In my opinion, one can easily sense their frustration and disgust with DRF’s poor performance and lack of any quality leadership by her of UNLV Athletics, and her complete lack of ability to lead and advance the quality and performance of UNLV Men’s Basketball, despite donors providing significant and extensive program support. Very hard to see how DRF has any credibility or honor by seeking a $70k raise at this time, with this hallmark program in shambles as much or more than at any other time, 4 years into her tenure, and how this was supported by UNLV leadership, as opposed to showing DRF the door as should have occurred. In my opinion, all indications of DRF’s lack of leadership, capability, performance, honor, donor relationship ability or results. Perhaps Mizzou will see through the unmitigated disaster that DRF is more quickly (note - top Mizzou Athlethics fundraising staff appear to be fleeing Mizzou right after DRF’s hire - speaks volumes in my opinion.)

“I’m extremely disappointed in the program, at this exact point in time, on a number of fronts,” said Bill Paulos, president of the Runnin’ Rebels basketball club. “This next hire has to be pretty amazing and has to come with players. It has to be an A-plus guy. It can’t be, ’We’re just going to hire some assistant coach from some place and bring him in.’ Or some other up-comer like T.J.

“I know T.J. will do great things at Iowa State,” Paulos added. “But the truth of it is, UNLV basketball must and should be a lot better than it is. That’s the harsh truth about where things stand.”

Another prominent donor, Tom Jingoli, expressed his disappointment with the current state of affairs, noting that “finishing seventh in the Mountain West is disappointing for everybody involved in the program.” It’s one thing for San Diego State and UNR to be better than UNLV, but it’s another for Utah State, Boise State, Colorado State and Wyoming, Jingoli said.

“It’s time for everyone to wake up and realize UNLV is an irrelevant mid-major program at best. We are not the Runnin’ Rebels of old,” said Jingoli, a board member of the Runnin’ Rebels basketball club. “If you hire the right coach, that can change. I’m happy for T.J. He got a Power 5 job with a significant pay increase. I don’t fault him for leaving.”

Am foaming at the mouth

LOL @ Mizter. Still salty about DRF leaving.
Thanks MonsterJam. Delighted at DRF leaving, salty (actually, more akin to disgusted) about what, in my opinion, DRF did to further diminish UNLV Athletics, abuse UNLV Athletics staff, alienate donors, and fleece UNLV while doing all of this.

You know there is a big issue with her job performance when she takes credit for things like the UNLV football facilities and stadium that were all set up prior to her being hired at UNLV, and they make a huge deal about the improvement in Olympic sports while ignoring the failing of football and basketball!
