If you are here on Rebel-Net confidential you are probably not the average UNLV fan. You are a die-hard. You are most likely a long time fan left over fan from the Tarkanian days where you enjoyed wearing that UNLV shirt around town and out of town. You remember what it felt like being the best of the best.

Now, everyone knows you are a diehard fan. The casual fans you talk Rebel basketball at work and around town are amazed that you can rattle off every single roster player, their height, what year they are, and where they played high school basketball. The last two years, those casual fans you talk Rebel hoops with don't really follow like you do. All they know is the record. All they know is we are in 7th place in the MWC and this is what you hear from them. "Dave Rice sucks"...." He is a horrible coach" ...."They should've never renewed his contract" ...." they should have let him go to Florida" and lets admit it... you are starting to cave in. Other than a win at home against Arizona you really don't have ammunition to battle their reasoning this year. You can say we play 6 freshman but they don't really know what that means, they think so does Kentucky?

You are frustrated because this is two years straight of below the standard for Rebel hoops.

Lets think about it though. Would you really want a coaching change at the end of this year? As diehard fans we will probably admit that Dave has had a learning curve being a first time head coach and we have experienced some of those growing pains along with him the first 4 years.

What would a coaching change mean? Well it would probably mean a complete overhaul in the roster (again), and then another 3 years to put together a team that can win 25 games a year and make it the MW championship game and be ranked some of the time (right where we were the year before last).

If you are running out of patience then don't ask for Dave Rice to be fired. Ride this thing out because Dave hit the reset button last year and decided to start over. the last thing we need right now as a program is to hit the restart button again and start over.

Trust me, I am as tired as anyone with the "wait until next year talk" but we really have no other logical choice as a fan. If you want what is best for our program do not cave in to the part time fans who do nothing but look at the standings and draw conclusions. This time next year I feel like Dave will have been giving ample opportunity to prove himself, and If you feel the same way a year from now then I will probably be right there with you. However right now all the talk and frustration does is hurt recruiting and makes the players second guess their decision . Lets for once not be that impatient fan-base and lets stand behind our guy through the tough times. It will only make it so much sweeter when we get to where we want to be.
