Writing was on the wall. It’s the perfect setup. Bad season, body language had been awful. You can see jealousies, just generally poor chemistry. If you looked, that is. If you get sucked into super optimism, you probably don’t see it or discard it.
Rashad did the same thing but his was to guard against injury for the NBA. Just like CFB players who skip the bowl. I don’t like it in any case, personally. But this gives Dedan ample time to shop around and go to the highest bidder.
Of course, this is “opinion” …
But I don’t want to hear about loyalty. There is none. Everyone is using everyone. Oh, they’ll give the perfect quotes to cover the shenanigans and they’ll candy coat it to make it sound good, even benevolent. But it’s all a show.

The chemistry issues have been ongoing for 2 years now, last year was more apparent on the court between the older guys and the younger guys. One guy just bailed on the team before the NIT. This season it looks like 2 key guys bailed.
I think Dedan has a ton of tools as a PG, understands the game better than most point guards but his leadership is a giant question mark to me. Of course it doesn’t help that the HC is a mediocre in the tactician and psychological department.
The program is such a disaster at this point that change can’t happen soon enough. None of it is surprising and I think there’s a real desire to get somebody that has a boat load of experience and can change the culture here. It’s the lowest it’s ever been as a culture, it’s so bad that I think personally CKK and Lon are stunned beyond belief and will just blame it on NIL destroying CBB.

I used to think there was a slight possibility that CKK could salvage this thing weeks ago after that stunning 2-3 game stretch in conference play but that all evaporated real quick. If there was a polymarket bet on CKK’s future at unlv, it would be 100 percent gone. I don’t think there’s any question now.
Does it really make a difference to anything UNLV sports related? To me, the interesting issue is will he have to return a portion of his NIL?
he probably had to play a certain percentage of the games and I would bet you filled that obligation.
I could see taking money back if the player transfers or quits. But an injury not so much.
As Whiting has been hurt all year, who plays point? Hicks or Bedford seems only possibles to me.
Probably has an injury clause in it where he’s still getting paid. Depends on what the contract says.
It makes a big difference in the fact that it is far more likely UNLV will struggle to win the last few games. I want zero chance that Kruger comes back by getting lucky and winning the MWC tournament, and this all but seals his fate!
UNLV was going to lose 3 of their last 5 season games with or without DJ. The 2 would be toss up games. Only difference with him not being on the team is we might get booted the first night of the mwct instead of the second night.
Who is paying him more the current NIL deal with UNLV that pays him to play this season or the SEC school that is paying him not to play the rest of this season?

I was wondering about this too. Especially when it was an expected injury that ended up happening at a later date.
It really doesnt matter... This team crumbles for the remainder of the year. DJ averaged 15ppg. Our wins this year in conference outside AFA have been within 10 points.. You see where Im going with this.. Combination of Hicks getting more time or Bedford/Henley leading isnt replacing that margin. We have 4 games left vs teams that are better than us and SJSU is now borderline there as well. Not that there was any real hope we could go on an end of year run, but this pretty much seals that...
Kruger has been saying the same thing about Rob as well... Since December.
Smart money says the team will crumble. But - there are times when a team is thrown into adversity and it comes back way stronger. For sure, their offense will be different. Guys will get more looks. It'll be interesting.
which guys? Its not like we have a bench with a few freshmen who arent logging minutes as a rotation gets cut down late in a season. There arent any more guys to give looks too. We play every single person on the bench at this point. Hicks isnt going to play point, so I doubt hes the replacement for the minutes DJ held, which means more Bedford, Henley and Rishwain with Hicks increasing his minutes...
Pssh we are finishing 0-5 and losing to AF on Tuesday night in the MW tourney. Can't wait to flush this turd and start over.
With Thomas, KK has been playing a 7 man rotation. Thomas has been getting 36 min. That's 36 min to spread around 6 players or get Bannarbie could get more time and make it a 7 man rotation. Either way it's about 6 min additional per player.
It doesnt work that way. Bannarbie isnt a guard and we cant put him out there as a guard, he'd be a defensive mess trying to guard smaller faster/agile players. Hes a 4/5...
8 man rotation prior to injury- bold for rotation players getting consistent PT
Forwards- Cherry, Hill, Pape, Bannarbie- that rotation isnt changing or adding minutes unless Kevin thinks going 3 Bigs helps him with the lack of guards.
Guards- Thomas(out), Henley, Rishwain, Bedford, Hicks...
New rotation
Forwards- Cherry, Hill, Pape

Dedan was getting 36 minutes a game because we have no one that could play his role or minutes while he sat. He's actually averaging 38 minutes a game if you take out the AFA games that we had significant leads in and he got time to sit. thats the problem. Minutes just dont rotate to equal "looks". You just add more minutes to poorer performing players and then task them to do something they arent elite enough at that KK felt comfortable giving Thomas time to rest on the bench during games. And for what its worth, I dont see KK all of a sudden giving Hicks 25-30 minutes a game, I see us struggling more with Bedford/Henley/Rishwain playing more than any of them should be,
He has been contacted by other schools about next season since December. And the schools are some that we are all familiar with.
Hicks actually can get past guys better than dj can. CKK will likely either not play him at point or not let him do anything and rob him of what he can do.
With our luck he's going to a school in the New Pac because UNLV stuck with the MWC.
For some reason, I think the Rebs respond positively and are semi glad Dedan won’t be hogging the ball every late second possession. We will open it up more, playing with a looseness that even Kevin can’t stop. A new, free wheeling Rebs might show vs CSU…. Just a feeling….
There is 0 chance that's the case... this team had 1 decent player. Now its a bunch of bench guys trying to play starters.
I like Henley. I think he would be a GREAT 4-5 option.
