Depth Chart, Game Notes, etc.

Yeah based on the amount of Spread teams we play , it looked in camp like a 4-2-5 (I think they only listed one DT spot but I believe we will play with 4 down lineman more often than not).

Chris Lopez is the biggest surprise at RG. Beats out guys like Scoggins and Gstrein who have multiple starts at that spot. Polu , Jacobsen and Neale all there as 2's as well. These guys must be doing something right to beat out some of the older lineman on the roster.

Looks like they expect big things from Mouton as he is listed #1 at Nickel and #2 at one CB spot.

Either he is confident that the d line and linebackers can stop the run, or he is nervous that the secondary needs help for the air game.

Might not be either of those or both. You see more teams running 3-4, 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 defenses to get more athletes on the field to combat the spread offenses. Rocky Long at San Diego State and Rich Rodriguez at Arizona have run the 3-3-5 as their base defense for years. What I like about the 3-3-5 is that you can bring pressure and give a ton of different looks out of it.

It seems like you'd really need to big boys on the D-line to make this work. Either that or you're going to have a really tough time stopping the run. Lineman will be 3 yards down field blocking linebackers before anyone has a chance to stop the runner.

TCU under Patterson runs both 3-3-5 and 4-2-5 looks and they typically are considered 'undersized'. Patterson tries to get as much speed on the field as possible and have guys swarm to the ball. But it would seem like you would need one big guy that could occupy 2 blockers.

We lack a Danny Shelton type of d tackle to push the nose. Tuli is a big boy, but I don't see him winning any endurance competitions. I think Sanchez is going to sustained aggression from the d line with all of the depth we have with frequent subs to keep the fresh legs.

I think that is the plan. Throw a lot of bodies out there to keep guys fresh.
