Dedan entered the transfer portal

Didnt we figure this when he "got injured" and couldnt finish the season?
He is a good player and i would have beem fine with him if he came back but i am not loosing any sleep with him gone.
Too short to make a serious difference at this level.

I like this move for DJ. He should go maximize his NIL payout. Career earnings in basketball end up being a brief moment in time for many. I am grateful he chose to stay home and be a Rebel. Looking forward to another Dedan donning the scarlet and grey in 30 years.

Called that one to play out exactly as it played out a couple of weeks before the actual, cough, cough, injury.

Spare me talks of loyalty, of legends. It’s bullshit.
It was obvious that half of the UNLV team had already quit and were all looking at fake injuries so that they could continue to get their NIL money while doing nothing!

They should fix this sort of thing in the future. If you're being paid, you're a pro. If you're actually injured, that's one thing, but if you choose to sit out, you should not receive any money for those games that you've chosen not to play.

I don’t get how DJ turns into the problem child by so many in the know on rebelnet? There were more people who liked Katin Rheinhardt around here than DJ!

Dedan Jr was not the problem, the former coach was and I’m so glad he is gone now, no more Mr nice guy or his lame attempts to run the hoops program. And as for being a nice guy, who cares, he wasn’t running for homecoming king! Lol

Hallelujah Kruger ball is dead around here!

Short memories + apathy + general regret he was wasted.. this season he was leading scorer, but missed some big time opportunities that cost the game in the clutch moments. Coaching definitely didn't do him any favors. Best PG we've had here in decades, the type of PG we wanted for years and our coach tried to turn him into the hero baller that he had leaned on his first 2 seasons instead of building a better team around him to allow him to be the PG he is...

Dedan has a lot of learning to do and I don’t know if leadership is something that can be learned or not but he’s a good point guard that needs a lot of talent around him to succeed. Good luck to him.

On Thomas he's small, not great athlete, poor defensively, but he's good college player, good coach with talent around him he will do well, however he's so small big guards will always kill him. Wish him the best!

If Harper hires good coach, he will decide who's good enough to be offered back.

Well Zero surprise here. To come right out of high school a year early with all the lofty expectations and thrown in leadership role right away and to be expected to be the savior of the team was just a little much. Especially with Kevin and able to get him no help essentially . But a serious problem in today's landscape. To even get anyone to sign you got to promise all the playing time and almost complete control to the point where it hurts the team. Is it worth it to pretty much turn over the keys to the entire team. Oh sure will be a perfect fit now but will be somewhere else. I am really not the least bit surprised at this end result. I am shocked how bad Kruger actually was. Cannot get over.

In the past you would expect loyalty, which includes keeping players, but now that half the players are transfers, and there is zero loyalty, let them all go and pick whom you want!

I never thought he would be here more than two years. I thought that was implied when he signed. I didn’t like that he stopped playing. I wish him luck. It is not his fault the Kevin did not maximize DJ’s talents more.

If Sampson called Milos Uzan soft when he arrived ("but he's not as soft now," to paraphrase), he won't like Dedan much upon arrival as well.

Dedan isn't exactly James Harden on defense but he's not quite Jordan locking down his man. He will need to be "coached around" on that end of the court.

Again I don't think talent was the problem this past year. I think a good, not great coach in Leon Rice would easily take this roster to the dance and actually win a game for the first time in his career.

Before the announcements, we had only 2 guys that were for sure ineligble next season.

I would like the new coach to at least fully evaluate what we have and have a chance to try to retain anyone that he likes for his system.

If he want to purge everyone, great. If he wants to keep some dude, then great too.

I can see players like Bear, Pape, Bedford etc having value next year when used properly.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not dumping on Dedan because I loved the fact that he was the local kid staying home, but IMO only, I think the hype around him was a little underwhelming given the expectations surrounding him, but I wish him nothing but good fortunes at whatever school he lands at.

Bear, and N’Diaye have to get more complete as “bigs” they both foul way too much!

Bedford should be considered but as a front court ball handler or point forward type.

And Evans maybe but in the age of Google, how can your grades be a problem? Lol

As for DJ he may have had enough here but the new guy should at least speak to him.

But if it’s the guy from Samford, he may already have a plethora of guards to bring with him!

Bucky has a lot of players from this year that he could bring with him including potentially I believe the CPOY.
As for Bedford, I think he doesnt have eligibility left other than applying for a waiver for his JUCO season.. still not sure Id want him to return as he was very inconsistent throughout the year.

Gonna take alot more than talking too at this point. NIL $ would take would be out of reach imo. I think that's why they call it that. the chances of staying are nil.

Again, used correctly.
Our defense was designed to funnel everyone into the key where our C contested the shot. So they were contesting WAY more shots than they would in a more traditional man to man.
As a consequence of this strategy, our center would then have to leave his man, leaving their big uncontested for the rebound, then our Center would be out of position to pivot back to guard HIS man .
You can see how the fouls would add up.
Pape is very promising as a true freshman. Still very raw offensively, but having a a long defensive center on the team is always a good thing.
Bear was a pretty good low post threat that mostly had his way against others in our league. Decent enough man up defender too.
The point being, I would want the new coach to have the opportunity to retain existing players. Many of our players have strengths, No player will be complete, but you can still go far if you design a system that utilizes players' strengths and minimizing weaknesses.
