Current UNLV offers

If the coach is going after players at this level, my expectation is that they have a lot more NIL money than I would have thought, otherwise they wouldn't waste their time on players they can't afford.
IMO, he wouldn't have come unless he was convinced he could get the players he needed.

There is more going on than we realize.
I still remember many here saying we can’t afford to fire Kevin?

Things have ramped up with Mullen and Pastner and it has already been said about Josh in the above posts but I will add neither of these guys would be here if money was going to be a struggle!

Not to rehash things but let’s clarify that CKK was here for 4 years and only had one season making the NIT. If money wasn’t an issue, why wasn’t CKK fired after year one, it was clear to me then and even more so before the second year (Vancouver disaster) even started that he didn’t have the coaching chops.

If money wasn’t an issue, why did his staff bolt after year one?

Of course some, including myself were very skeptical that UNLV would actually make a bold move and shell out the buyout, instead of doing the usual throw away the next season, eat a year of salary.

Happy to be proven wrong but let’s not act like UNLV has no history of being CHEAP.

We are all entitled to our opinions my man and I’m not looking to throw a party about it just making a statement and I’m glad we are where are now, with Pastner. At the end of the day, we are Rebels fans here.

Do we agree all the time, heck no but so what, I don’t need agreement from everyone to feel validated. I am plenty comfortable enough to go my own way on things at times and it’s okay if others do that as well, all opinions should be welcomed here, regardless.

Kevin is history and I am happy about that.
I’m now looking forward to both upcoming seasons, let’s go Rebels!

UNLV also has a history of sucking in football, but that isn't true NOW! Do you really think he would be recruiting mostly four star and even five star players if they didn't have enough money that he believes he could get some of them? If the money doesn't exist, then it would be a complete waste of the coaches time to recruit that level of player.

That’s not the issue I have, the issue I’m pointing out… is why did it take 4-5 years for money to be applied to the program? It was obvious YEARS ago that we hired someone in over his head, it was obvious in year one and his seasoned assistants all bailed on him.

It’s been corrected now and I do agree with the theory that Harper needed to get the football program squared away first (need a long term HC) before doing anything with the MBB program.

I give CJP a ton of credit for his enthusiasm and energy about the program. It’s been missing for a LONG time, since maybe Bayno. I also give CJP credit for tweaking his contract to give UNLV more flexibility in year one. Shows he’s a real ball coach and knows he can win right away with the right people. He’s going to resurrect this program and hopefully he will be here long term.

" It was obvious YEARS ago that we hired someone in over his head..........."

Couldn't this have been the very reason people were hesitant to give money?

Plausible.

DRF bolted not long after hiring Kruger though. Clearly Harpers first priority was football and it was clear he wasn’t happy with Arroyo and needed to get help on his buyout.

It was very risky to can Arroyo, a slick guy that just had a 5 win season and had just beaten Reno. Turn around and hire a mid SEC coach with zero ties to Vegas and the west coast.
