I've been paying attention to the Rebels this year and it's nice to see you guys finally putting it all together. You would have to go all the way back to the Randall Cunningham/Harvey Hyde days when UNLV was this good. Looking forward to the October 7th match-up in SJ. Should be great! Good to see Coach Arroyo putting it all together for you guys. BTW, we are looking forward to our match-up with Nevada-Reno (they hate being called by that name) on October 29th. Hoping our Spartans will put a major beat down on the 'Pack. I'm looking forward to UNLV giving them a real curb-stomping when you host them on November 26th. There's no other MWC team I dislike as much as UNR. I hate them more than Fresno.

Eh, they were ranked under Robinson and won a bowl game vs Arkansas. Other than that, you are right.

I don't remember UNLV being ranked under Robinson? The only time UNLV was ranked that I know of was during the Cunningham years where they started the season ranked in the preseason polls. I think it was the AP but not sure and I believe it was 25th.

I remember that we were ranked 25th entering the year after his best season. I easily could be wrong, however.

Thanks @Spartansrule86 , it's nice to be 4 games into the season and not be talking about basketball yet. This team definitely looks different than any recent teams. We're big and physical enough to not get bullied over the course of a whole game, and have talent at multiple skill positions. If we can keep our QB healthy, unlike last year, that will go a long way for us in keeping the momentum. Now, just need to get our 2 dinged up WR's healthy again, and hopefully we can give you guys a run for your money next week.

I haven't really paid too much attention to most of the other conference teams. It looks like you guys had a pretty good game against Auburn. That's impressive. What's your team all about this year? Looking at the stats, it seems like you've got a solid QB who doesn't turn it over much, and a fairly balanced attack, but again, that's just by looking at stats and not having watched any games.

The Spartans were really helped by the xfer portal in the off-season. SJS gained top receivers from Nevada and QB Cordeiro from Hawaii. The defense was already solid with the majority of last years squad returning. The O-line is young (but improving). The weakest spot on the team is the running game. SJS struggles to gain 100 yards per game. To have a fair shot at a winning record, you really need to get to 150 ypg in your running game. Cordeiro is a smart QB and has not thrown a pick yet. He makes pretty good decisions on the field. I think the three top teams in the west are Fresno, SJS & Vegas. Fresno is vulnerable right now with their QB out and their top defense player (Wiliams) injured. SUDS has a near non-existent offense and they will likely finish fourth. Nevada and Hawaii are both awful and will battle for the cellar.

Thanks for taking the time and writing a nice note to us. We are looking forward to a good game with the Spartans and regard it as an important game to win. Interesting about Reno. Obviously, we have an intense rivalry too. Don't know if you know this but NEVADA is not the official name of the school. Its Nevada-Reno. The athletic department used Nevada because they couldn't effectively recruit by using Nevada-Reno so they decided upon themselves to just use Nevada. Its not the official name however. Hope you will be successful against them.

How are you feeling about your matchup with Wyoming this weekend? Looks like Wyoming is shown as a 3 point favorite going into the game. They always seem to be tough when playing in Laramie.

It's Reno. No one will convince me otherwise.

The SJSU game will be tough. On the road against a good team. The Spartans throw the ball. I'm not sold on our secondary against the pass. SJSU has caused a bunch of turnovers. SJSU has given up a bunch on the ground but I thought we'd run through USU and that didn't happen. Our OL has been bipolar, but it's been a small sample size. I need to see more from our OL's blocking and schemes.

I think we'll learn a lot about both teams this weekend. Wyoming is going to be tough on the road, and UNLV needs to prove that it can keep up intensity, be consistent week to week, and beat teams it should beat without playing to their level.

Ultimately, I think UNLV loses a really close game next week. 31-27

Don't be sad LVRebel2000. I'm wrong all the time. Just ask my wife.

Very nervous. Wyoming is a well coached, disciplined team. They don't make too many mistakes and they will be very tough. However, I am encouraged that the game is in early October and the weather at kick-off will be okay. Saturday's forecast is partly cloudy, some rain and a high of 59. I think the Spartans have a decent chance - I wouldn't feel as confident if the game were later in the month or in November with snow flurries. The Spartans WRs matchup well against Wyoming's secondary. IF SJS can run the ball a little they should be fine. If they don't have at least 50 yards on the ground by halftime, I don't like their chances.

Yeah, Correct me if wrong but, wasn't JT a Heisman hopeful too?
Yep. Kuiper touted it pretty heavily and UNLV took it and ran with it (as they should have) even though it was clear to anybody that watched UNLV in a few games that JT was a great athlete that played QB, but really wasn’t a strong QB. Was fun though and gave us a ton of excitement.

I always thought it was Northern Nevada Community College (NNCC)

JT was about a decade ahead of his time. His skill set in today’s game with Read option and RPOs would have matched perfectly. Assuming, of course, that he could have actually run the option well.

If I remember right they were preseason ranked only in the espn/coaches poll not the AP poll, they had them 20 something!

I loved the RC days. Fun team to watch. I tutored some of the guys in math. All were great guys.

I can do nothing but laugh that the NCAA would put anyone on probation for recruiting violations when schools are using alumni to give millions to players to come to their schools under the NIF programs! Putting Air Force on probation is total bullshit used to keep the lower tier schools from moving up will schools like Ohio State, USC, etc. can give cash away like it is going out of style!

A university of Miami recruit has a $9.5 million deal - No doubt that is OK while Air Force is on probation most likely for something like a $20 free meal or a free car ride?

A Miami Gym is giving $500 per month to every player from U of Miami to endorse their gym.

Alabama QB is getting $800,000 or more.

Quinn Ewers at Ohio State $1.4 million NIL deal.

No doubt I could find 1,000's of other deals!

From the Air Force story:
The Action Network, citing sources, reported in May that the Falcons were being investigated for hosting high school prospects on campus during dead periods in 2020 and providing them with improper benefits.

What a joke! Provide millions in an NIL deal to entice a player OK -
Spending a $100 or less on a high school player - Not OK!

What’s up San Jose fan.I met Sam Orosco. He’s the owner of burrito zilla in downtown San Jose. His first amateur fight was against Andre ward as a kid.
