With all of the news about Deion being a possibility of being the new Cowboys coach, it got me thinking about what that would mean. First off, it would be devastating to Colorado, as they would almost certainly lose a ton of players to the portal.

The issue that would concern me is what happens after that.

Who would fill the coaching vacancy? Similar to what Odom did at UNLV, Deion showed that you can win right now at Colorado, and it would be a pretty high profile coaching vacancy.

If Deion leaves, does this start another chain reaction of coaches being poached? Is Mullen at risk of this?

The UNC situation is questionable, too. I saw where Bllicheck hasn’t signed a contract yet (hard to believe that this is true) but two new staffers were recently hired.

Would Mullen jump to UNC if it opens? That would be considered a good hire for them.

No. They might call his agent, but I think at this point he's ready to coach and he's building a program full of solid P4 transfers. Trying to pick up the pieces at Colorado or the mess that would be left at UNC seems like a headache he wouldnt want..
Now Arnette on the other hand might get a call...

No reason for any coach to not to be winning games at Colorado. One of the bigger head scratchers over last 30 years. Great campus. Great stadium. Lots of drunk students. Snowballs.

Mullen took a job at a significant drop in pay from what he could get at other schools, so I do not see him leaving before he has even started. If you worry about every job opening that exist, then you will not last the season before you explode!

Is Belichick playing UNC? Trying to leverage them into an NFL head coaching job? Why after so long hasn't he signed his contract? If so, he'd be the biggest piece of shit out there.

I hope so. But if CO came in offering $6+ million a year, a lot of coaches would listen. Hopefully not Mullen, but as they say, money talks.

That's quite the deal isn't it? It's certainly strange that he hasn't signed yet. For all of our sake, I hope they get him signed and he coaches at UNC, at least for a couple years.

assuming we keep our coaching staff in tact

I got kicked out of Folsom for throwing a snowball in the first quarter of a CU v NU game. I’m like bro the entire student section is throwing snowballs
As I’m being escorted out. We get to the top of the stairs he says don’t let my supervisor see you and don’t throw anymore snowballs and I’ll let you back in. The supervisor left and he said go quick, so I did and made it through the rest of the game. Some kids were buying or brought hotdogs letting them freeze and then whipping them at the helmets of Nebraska players.

Buyouts tend to go down over years, I think next year is 6 million, and so on. It only goes up if he signs an extension or something. I don’t see Mullen sticking around more than 2 years though.
Yeah I was hoping he does real well and after two years he gets a raise and that number goes up.

And UNC are the biggest marks for letting him be the "head coach" without a contract

I think the buyout for Mullen is 4 or 5 mil again after year 2. I would have hoped we could learn our lesson from the Odom situation, but not much.
Adjusted for inflation we got much more money for TJ's buyout vs Odom. Let that sink in

What happens if Dan Mullen leaves or gets fired from UNLV?

If Mullen leaves, he will owe UNLV millions. If he leaves for a Power 4 or NFL head coaching job before Dec. 1, 2025, he owes UNLV $7 million. It drops to $5 million if he goes somewhere other than a Power 4 team or the NFL.

In the next four years, that payout drops by a million each year.

If he gets fired before Dec. 31, 2029, UNLV will owe Mullen 80 percent of his salary. If UNLV lets him go in two years, with three years left on his contract, UNLV would owe him $8.4 million.
