Cole Anthony

In all honesty. I don't see this one materializing at all as far as us landing the kid. Greg really doesn't have anything to do with UNLV anymore. Greg's interests don't even lie in Las Vegas or Nevada anymore at all. He is a New York (east coast) guy and broadcasting is his thing.

Unless we have some kind of connection besides the obvious (this is Greg's Alma matter) . I don't think we have much of a shot.

Didn't know the numbers go to #110. How many kids are on this team?
LOL

Agree with Rebelwithacause on this one.

Seperate question: Who is the most "Vegas" athlete that has given back to the community? I'd go with Andre Agassi.

With all of the concerts that Agassi put on to bring in money and everything else it is into the 10's of millions. The amounts we are talking for Findlay is more likely around a couple of million in donations. The attached shows that the total is way above 10's of millions in total. The net assets are around $100 million for the charity!

Don't forget Agassi helping bring back Wet-n-wild to Vegas!

Greg Anthony was the heart and sole of the 1990 national championship team. We all know the story of him breaking his jaw and then showing up the next day for practice with a hockey helmet on and then playing with is jaw wired shut and a face mask on for much of the season. Easily one of my all time favorites (like many of you). If Cole is like him then the Rebels need to do whatever it takes to get him (within the rules of course). It would be really nice to see Greg at the games and become more participatory with UNLV basketball.

Greg's kid has insane athleticism. Of coarse we should go after him, however I just don't feel confident about landing Cole Anthony. I think it will be a recruiting battle between college basketball's elite programs for him. Since Greg is in broadcasting, I think he chooses the highest profile program possible for his son. What team has the most national TV appearances? Besides, Cole is probably the best PG in his class. Usually that title (of best PG in your class) earns you the right to choose any school you want. UNLV is Greg's alma matter, but will that connection beat out offers from Kentucky, Duke, Kansas ?

Greg went to the University of Portland when he left Rancho HS. Doubt if the Pilots are in the mix...

The only thing Findlay has done is help himself get rich from the community and the school he put his name on hasn't done anything that benefits the community.

While Findlay has not done anything close to Agassi, that is far from the truth. He and his wife are involved with donations for the Smith Center for performing arts, he has also funded numerous athletic leagues for children, the dealerships are always donating cars to various groups like St. Judes, etc. He has also made numerous donations to UNLV, cancer groups, etc. Interesting how everyone in the world always wants to tell other people how to spend their money.

While writing about donations, I came across this article a few weeks back that Carol Harter lost UNLV a donation (by will) that would have been in excess of $50 million due to pissing off a major donor! https://lasvegassun.com/news/2001/aug/31/fulton-cuts-unlv-out-of-his-will/
Things like this aren't supposed to happen. But it's been the way UNLV has always been - a leadership nightmare. From Prez's to AD's, very little competence along the way. It makes what Tark accomplished even more amazing.

That story from the Sun is a little incomplete. To think that Fulton pulled his support over a $1.6m overage seems a little punitive. When I read things like that, I try to find the subtext, eg. did Fulton have it in for Harter for another reason other than the way the project was handled? Or, was he looking for a way to bail on his promise, which happens more often than we know? We've seen this movie several times and the news rarely gets to the bottom of it.

He was one of hundreds that pulled support. I am not sure if he is or isn't alive now, but he has donated 10's of millions to numerous other causes since that time in history. Up to that point he had donated almost $10 million to UNLV which likely made him either the top donor or one of the top donors of all time up to that point in history. Carol Harter had a history of running off donors due to her arrogance and ego that was larger then life, while she did nothing to improve UNLV while helping to destroy the athletic department and running off a lot of large donors on both the academic and athletic sides of the campus.

Hey, Findlay Prep is nothing more than a Prep School Hoops Factory, it is not really designed to be anything more than that. Cliff makes no pretense about it being a pillar of the LV Community. No more, no less. I am okay with it.
