Coach Of The Year

COACH OF THE YEAR – SPENCER DANIELSON, BOISE STATE
I can see it going either way. He repeated to keep them at the top as a young coach, top 10 type of team. Did they overachieve? Perhaps.

I’d have picked Odom but I’d readily acknowledge my heavy bias.

UNLV overachieved as well … we were picked second in conference to finish behind Boise and that’s what we did. We probably won one more in conference than perhaps expected, same thing with non-conference. Between Kansas, Houston (we didn’t know they’d be a dud and we were on the road) and Syracuse, it could have been an 0-3, 1-2 and ended up a 2-1 and coulda shoulda been 3-0.

That’s what we did. What happened with the rest of the country to allow UNLV to slip and slide into a favorable position has nothing to do with our coaching.

I could see it going either way, quite honestly. You can’t take much away from Danielson. Top 10 and their only loss was to #1 at their place on a last second field goal while screwing the pooch with special teams (two TDs for the Ducks on returns).

I know we all like our guy best …. But there certainly is very valid reasoning for Danielson.

A top ten finish and only loss to Oregon, one of the top teams in the country. Their program was in shambles when they canned Avalos, and Spencer turned it around. Great coach.

I half expect our fanbase to get all huffy puffy mama bear and talk about how it’s a screw job and the ncaa hates UNLV and that’s why he didn’t win it.

If you have heavy blinders on, I can understand Odom being the runaway winner.

There are usually only two or three G5 coaches that move up each coaching carousel. We can hope they target Danielson instead of CBO.

I think part of the reasoning is the turnaround from Avalos era and also have to credit Spencer for keeping Jeanty in Boise. Could’ve made a fortune somewhere else but stayed. I am pulling for Jeanty to win the heisman.

I guess I’m not bitter since UNLV got a ton of accolades and awards and CBO won it last year. It’s not a big deal to me, and at this point the only thing that matters is winning on Friday.

Boise was picked to win the league with the best RB in D1. Bang up coaching job. Totally surpassed expectations.

Without question he turned the program around. I was open about thinking Boise State sucked under the last coach, but they guy running the program now has done a great job and is just as deserving of coach of the year as coach Odom. Hopefully after Friday, they will rethink who should be coach of the year!

I don't think anyone outside of that locker looked at Jeanty last Fall and said, "Now, there goes the best RB in D1." When he said his goal was 2,000 rushing yards this season, after 1800-some all-purpose yards last year, I thought, damn, Ashton, smoking up at media days? And there are plenty of people on this board who said SD was too inexperienced to have the kind of year he ended up having (not saying that's you, Zone).

Honestly, I thought he was one of the best RBs in college last year … when they’re that difficult to bring down, when the grind keeps churning, it means it’s pumping through their veins. You got it or you don’t and not many have it to that degree.

It’s not so far fetched, Boise has a great coach, I like him a lot.
Sound like Dirk Koetter is leaving. A few offensive players decommitted.

At the same time, none of our offensive de committed. Marion is staying. Maybe
