CDM Era: Transfer Portal and Recruits Thread

I know it’s a long shot at best, but South Dakota State QB Mark Gronowski is entering the portal. Most likely gonna follow his coach to Washington St.
He most likely tests the nfl waters. If he remains in college the big boys are going to try and drop bags on him the likes of which Wazzu couldn't match. Sure he is familiar with the coaches but so what. He will be blinded by the bags.

So his pro prospects didn't come back as favorably as he had hoped. I'd take him back, but Mullen is going and getting a few of these speedy shorter WRs already. With him and Cain, it seems there's probably alot more WR transfers coming in shortly

Wouldn’t be shocked if he returns. Not easy to move a family around the country especially if only for one year. And isn’t his family in nearby Cali? DeJesus has the potential to flourish even more under a CDM offense.

While Las Vegas may not offer as good of an NIL deal as some of the bigger programs, Las Vegas does have the money and companies to set up players after retirement, which they have done for many of the former UNLV basketball players. If he is looking to set up his family, Dejesus would be better off to stay and have another great year

Depends on the bag. Theoretically the family doesn’t have to move and he can just support them from wherever.

With not a ton of carryover, especially with starters or "stars" last year, I can see DeJesus being marketable for some NIL scratch if used in the traditional sense. Maybe a similar spot to they way DJ and Dedan are being used in that Findlay commercial.

We have NIL money I haven’t seen us sign anyone yet that would use up much or any of that $5 million so put some towards him.

Bull, I want to read your description of Arnett's 3-3-5 defense, sir. I read it requires athletic DL that can shoot the gap. Sound like a Go-Go defense.

If you look at his and Rocky Long's defenses at SDSU they didn't run a traditional three man front like you typically see. Usually with three man front you think Steelers for example. Massive NT and the two DE's that are more like undersized DTs vs pass rushing type DEs. The DL especially the NT job is to occupy multiple blockers allowing LBs to run free.

With Long's 3-3-5 he had a lot more 'undersized' in terms of weight guys, but typically more tall/long armed guys quick off the ball. This defense wants to attack gaps and penetrate and be disruptive behind the line.

What it does really well is disguise coverages and where they bring pressure from. CB, LB, SF all can be used to rush the passer while not technically blitzing because you're still only bringing four and dropping 7 in coverage. Your pass rush is more about deception and keeping the OL/QB guessing where the fourth rusher is coming from vs trying to bring heat with extra numbers. (They will bring 5 and actually blitz not saying they don't ever blitz.)

I think Camac is definitely a guy that would fit into the defense well.

Its all about making the QB uncomfortable with his pre snap reads.

To add to this, if you look at Arnett’s rosters when he was a DC, you will see a theme of height. Most of his DL/ LB were above average height. He had 11 guys in 2022 that were at or over 6’4. Of them, only 3 were at or over 300 pounds.

Seems that he wants exactly what Camac brought this season at all three DL spots. An athletic guy who can close certain passing lanes just by being tall.

According to the portal listing, they are staying. It is hard over the last week watching people leave with very few commits due to the holiday season more than anything else. I really want to see some high level transfer recruits commit to UNLV!
Might see some after Tomorrow and Thursdays bowl games? Ole Miss and OSU
