SJSU's coach compared the portal to window shopping. "So and so has entered the portal. That's NICE! Damn we can't afford that! Next!"He really turned the corner too.
UNLV still has severe limitations vs the big schools. And it’ll keep happening.
We have a pretty good NIL budget now he would be a worthy target. He’s going to get paid. Probably Purdue bound, if I’m guessing going with Odom and Scherer.
I hadn't heard Scherer was going to Purdue I thought that was just our own assumptionHe’s going to get paid. Probably Purdue bound, if I’m guessing going with Odom and Scherer.
He’s 1000% going to Purdue.I hadn't heard Scherer was going to Purdue I thought that was just our own assumption
Most likely unless Odom hires his brother from USC to be DC.I hadn't heard Scherer was going to Purdue I thought that was just our own assumption
8 guys hit the portal today so far, https://247sports.com/Season/2025-Football/TransferPortal/?institutionkey=24084.
Camac, Correa, Chittenden, St. John... some big losses if they do end up signing somewhere else.
The number was closing in on 20 this morning. UNLV better be happy they swung for the fences for a coach, otherwise next year could have put UNLV right back to where they were prior to Odom, but with a much weaker MWC in the future. I hope they get NIU along with another team from back east on board, and I hope the staff coming in with Mullen can both recruit replacements and talk some of the players that have gone into the portal into staying at UNLV.Mullen alluded to seeing some portal entries and "testing the market" with some players.
Hopefully we can retain many of these guys.
Truth is we are already losing a ton from just an eligibility standpoint. It seems like a huge chunk of our promising returners are in the portal too now.
Mullen has his work cut out.
I think we would have had a few more in the portal, but I believe those who were going to go follow Odom would have waited. Those on defense would have had a good idea of what they were walking into anyway. The classy thing is that most of these guys waited until after the bowl game.
If our bowl game was later in the month and the window was closed by then, this classiness wouldn't have happened.
Yep, this is true. It's just a big if. In Deion's 1st year, he brought in like 80+ new players if I remember, and the team struggled. They were very good his 2nd year though, after turning over a number of those previous 80 with his 2nd recruiting/portal classIf we're good at the portal game we can upgrade our roster overall. I think this is where a coach with lots of sec ties can help. So many players in that conference that could be targets
The big difference in what Prime did and what we will have to do is CU was in a P4 and playing against P4 competition, we will not be playing many of those types of games. If Mullen brings in the SEC types many of you think, we should be good going forward on talent alone against MWC competition. Now we may have to bring in 40, 50 or more new faces due to attrition but the last time I checked, we have 1 P4 game in UCLA next year, everyone else is a G5 level team and we should be the more talented team in those games. Mullen ain’t Prime and very few are when it comes to recruiting but if we get SEC type transfers like many of you think, we should be good for 10 or more wins next season based off of the talent that will be here.Yep, this is true. At this point, he's not going to have much choice but to have a huge portal class this season, unless he can get a bunch of the current guys to change their minds and leave the portal to stay with UNLV. You're right though that it should be much easier for UNLV to succeed in the MW, than it was for CO to succeed in the B12 when Deion came inThe big difference in what Prime did and what we will have to do is CU was in a P4 and playing against P4 competition, we will not be playing many of those types of games. I will believe it when I see it, as far as the so-called SEC talent comes flowing in but if he does get those types here, we should be fine and Mullen will be moving on in 2 years like Barry due to the success he will have here!
Hopefully Mullen is a good scrabble player. I also hope he can find a way to hide the better scrabble pieces and pull them out as needed!Feels like scrabble. You can’t dick with your tiles so you toss them back and grab seven brand new ones and keep your fingers crossed.
Wasn’t Tulane using their backup quarterback?A mediocre SEC team Florida smoked Tulane today who is comparable to our better competition. Remember that linebacker from Florida couple years ago who didn't play there and who was the stud here.. can't remember his name. I really think Mullen will bring in those kind of players
Unfortunately bowl games have become secondary to many of the players. Lucky for UNLV that most of the players showed up since we lost two of the three main coaches for the game.Wasn’t Tulane using their backup quarterback?
Yeah, their starter went to Duke I think. Tulane was severely over rated and got exposed their last 3 games.Wasn’t Tulane using their backup quarterback?

Guess he was almost signed there last year before going to Duke. Seems weird Duke went after a different QB after going 9-3Malik Murphy left Duke to go to Oregon State...Seems like a weird landing spot..
His main recruiter there was Ryan Gunderson. Murphy is from SoCal. Gunderson has been trying to get him on their roster he was the QB coach for UCLA. The landing spot really does seem weird, but the word is that Duke was trying to recruit over him.Malik Murphy left Duke to go to Oregon State...Seems like a weird landing spot..

He had accuracy issues at Duke, though he did have a monster passing year, he posted similar stats as Maiava. I wonder how much they’re paying him. He was making $240k at Duke, but war chest from Oregon state is a bit of a mystery to me. I believe he could have made more somewhere else.
