I’ll say Rebels 23 Cal 20 next week. Cal is only beating UC Davis 17-7 right now.

Hard to get a true gauge on a team after only 1 game so I am not going to predict anything crazy, I will say this though, UNLV‘s schedule appears to be much more manageable than before the season. As for next week, Cal most likely wins, but I will go with my heart and say UNLV 27-20

Look at yesterday's games. Only a very few G5 can compete with even lower-tier P5 teams. P5 has too much depth and wears down the G5 teams.

At the half Rebs 17 - Cal 10

Final - Cal 33 - Rebs 23

Considering Cal struggled with UC Davis, and ended up winning by 21 due to the second half, it is a slap in the face of UNLV football. That would be saying UNLV is only a TD better than UC Davis.

I don’t know … hard to draw conclusions in week one … no real body of evidence and we are talking about four teams that aren’t exactly strong.

You really made my point about drawing conclusions based on a small body of evidence. What evidence is there that California is a two TD favorite over UNLV? While I am using the only games from this year to draw my conclusion, ESPN or whomever is using games from last year to draw their conclusion! Magically ESPN made unr a favorite over UNLV based on their second game while prior to the second game, they were dogs to UNLV. I think UNLV is going to be under estimated no matter what they do this season. Hopefully by the end of the year UNLV will have outperformed the odds ever single game! I believe UNLV beat the spread almost every game last year, they just couldn't get over the hump and win the close games.

Then it sounds like you should pile cash on UNLV.

Perhaps Cal’s lines dominate UNLV’s lines and wins 34-10, even if that’s really the only place where there was a clear difference in play … domination at the lines shows heavy. Then it will look like UNLV “should have” been a 20 point underdog.

With lesser teams, less is known and after these two teams’ first games, I don’t think much is known still … and we tend to go with our biases (jaded, optimistic, we are due) … this early, it’s more of a gut feel than strong analysis, imo.

I mean - I really believe UNLV will battle hard in this one and have a real chance. What am I basing it on? UNLV’s offense and Doug looked sharp in game one … against a complete shitball team. Even though the UNLV defense was not tested at all.

And I combined that with Cal’s relative struggle against a shitball team …

It’s all I got and I certainly don’t consider it the reasoning strong at all.

UC Davis was able to get some things done vs Cal in the first half. I believe that we may be a very live underdog. If we can keep Doug healthy anything is possible. Also we should be able to run the football on them.

Is that Jake "The Snake" Plummer's kid playing for Cal? UNLV need to grind this game. We have good running backs. Keep Plummer off the field. He is good. Brum need to stay healthy. I want to see Friel come in and do some wildcat offence here and there.

I believe we will need to give them multiple looks on offense. Open up the play book as much as possible. We need to be very unpredictable. The Screens to Rb's and WR will be come very important. We must play physical football. There is a lot of talk about this teams being Confident. Let's see how well they did with a bye week to prepare for Cal

20+ years of mediocrity.

Cal won 5 games last year.
UNLV won 2..

Cal had some bad losses no doubt. Also had some close losses (by 7 to a ranked Oregon team)

And a decent win or 2 (beat USC. Grant not a great USC team but still USC)..

Yes, I think UNLV may be better this year, but there is no metric that the books are looking at that point to UNLV suddenly being favored against Cal. Cal was #33 in total defense last year. I think we all agree UNLV's defense looked to be turning the corner last year, but I still think they finished in the 90s (would have to check).

Again, Cal isn't great, I think the Rebels have a legit shot to steal this game. Cal may be looking ahead (they have Notre Dame the following week.)

I think Rebs will be in the game heading into the 4th quarter.

Figure Cal is getting about 3-4 points simply for being at home..

Nuetral site Cal favored by 10
Playing here Probably only a 7-8 point favorite..

27-24 not sure who wins..

Tough call. I could see us underperforming our expectations or stealing a close one. Thinking we’ll need a turnover or two but I’m concerned about our defense. Gotta keep Cal’s off the field as much as possible. As for a prediction I’m same as you all, mind (34-28 Cal) v. heart (27-24 UNLV).

Do you think California has anyone that can stop Ricky White? Look what he did in his freshman year to Michigan when he got the chance to play, look what he did in the first half of the first game. If they can get the ball to him, I don't think Cal has anyone that can defend him. UNLV will need to throw the ball to win!

I would suggest watching the the Cal press conference from their head coach and D coordinator. They are specifically talking about the UNLV passing game a lot. In my opinion the run game will be very important!

They were a top 40 defense last year.

Might be again this year. Ricky White is a P5 talent. No doubt about it.

But I wouldn't sell Cal short in their ability to contain a player.

I think more important than getting him the ball, is not trying to force him the ball.

Take what's there...

Road game against a middle of the road PAC12 team. I think Cal wins the game in the trenches on both sides of the ball as their depth and talent on defense wear us down. Cal wins the turnover battle as well. We're game and competitive but Turnovers and Cal's ability to generate a nice pass rush bringing 3-4 are too much to overcome. UNLV scores a late touchdown against the Cal second team to make to seem closer than it is

Cal: 24
UNLV: 10

I am worried about establishing a run game against their front.

I think we have to "Oregon" it up with less traditional run plays, jet sweeps, screen passes, maybe RPO's to have some balance. Mixed in quick pass plays, maybe some tempo.

I am also worried about stopping their run. Our LBs seem to be good, even our DL impressed me last game, but it's hard to take anything truly away from that level of opponent.

I'm not confident our O line will create big enough holes for Robbins , at least right off the bat.

Offensive line is the biggest concern, followed by the D! The line took a while to get going last game and the CB’s were getting it handed to them early on by Idaho State. We will have to stay on schedule offensively by being unconventional and stay out of 3rd and longs. The defense will have to be opportunistic in making plays and getting the ball back for Doug and Co. to work. A couple of turnovers would go a long way to keeping things close enough to spring a surprise upset!

Week 0 was awesome and Dougie B showed abilities scarce seen by a UNLV QB....BUT, ISU is terrible. Possibly hanging a bagel in the win column in the FCS terrible. I'm sure Brumfield has Cal's full attention. Their average athlete is still a little better than ours. Don't read too much into UC Davis. Decent FBS teams sometimes allow decent FCS opponents to hang around in week 1. Week 2 is usually more a reversion to the mean.

I don't expect we'll run the ball well. Makes us a little more one-dimensional and puts the target on Dougie B. We will compete but lose 34-24.

If Brumfield somehow shreds Cal like he did ISU, the Heisman posters need to come out against North Texas.🤣

Ricky White had an individual game verse Michigan that showed he is at a different level even against top level programs, and California is not even in the same zip code as Michigan on the field. After that game, Ricky White did something at MSU that got him benched and had a lot to do with why he came to UNLV, but the coaching staff has been closed mouth and never said what happened. I can't say how our defensive or offensive lines will do verse California, but I do believe if they can get the ball to Ricky White, California has nobody that can cover him in the same way Michigan could do nothing to stop him! It also doesn't hurt that UNLV also has a couple of other very good receivers this year that have the ability to take the pressure of passing just to Ricky White.

I do agree that UNLV will need to put out some level of a running game otherwise California will most likely double team Ricky White the entire game.

White and Weimer are awesome. Those two are not the only gifted WR UNLV have. The running game need to be used as a tool to keep Cal's offence off the field not to beat them. Our QB and WR corps are good enough to score against them but the defense is not good enough to stop their offence.

I do hope a running game shows up, and we will find out quickly if the defense has improved or if Idaho State was that bad? It would have been nice if SDSU played against Idaho State before the Cal game!
