Interesting new rumor today around Rockets assistant Brett Gunning. Student assistant under Rollie, assistant under Wright at Hofstra and then Villanova until 2008. In the NBA from 2008 forward. Not sure why he left Villanove in 2008, was he pushed out as associate head coach? Villanova was coming off two down years.

By all accounts Harden and the rocket players really like the guy. He is in charge of the offense for Houston. Which when Harden is not on the floor is pretty varied for NBA offenses. Jeff Bezdelik is the defensive coach.

He left in 2008 after Villanova made several deep tournament runs. Not down years. He probably wanted to be in the NBA. He also recruited players like Corey Stokes, Corey Fisher, Scottie Reynolds, and Kyle Lowry.

Absolutely he had success at Villanova but the two years right before he left were down mid-pack finishes in the Big East (yes one was a sweet 16 as a 12 seed but overall down compared to years prior and after). If the NBA was his dream and he is finding success with the Rockets why leave? There are plenty of reasons as th NBA season is a grind and fewer HC spots, but also you don’t have to deal with recruiting.

I think he would be a solid hire, but he won’t move the needle and there are some questions that would need to be answered.

Fans will bitch about any hire we make....welcome to UNLV.

I Think the fan base got excited when they were told that a 2.7 million dollar budget was available to secure a new coach. Everyone envisioned a "name coach" with a proven track record. Now it seems they are back to the bargain basement variety.

Is it considered a bait and switch when the number was never made public by any reputable source? I saw that 1.7-2.8 number also, but nothing was ever official about what I saw, just expectation based on someone someone knows.
