Bracketology has 2 MWC teams

Nice. I am really looking forward to seeing us play Boise St. for our first conference game. That would be a huge win for us. Historically, it seems like we always lose our first conference game though.

Reno and Boise St. are projected to make the tournament. 1st time in a while that the MWC has had 2 teams considered. Maybe the conference is earning a little more respect this year.

I really think given the right set of circumstance, the MW will get two teams in this year. That #2 team in the MW has to separate them from the rest of the league. Of course, I am hoping it is UNLV. that second team isn't going to get in the NCAA's with a 13-5 league record. It's going to take 14-4 or better and winning a couple games in the MW tourney to get in. Be it either Boise, UNLV, Reno, or Fresno..it is possible for the MW to get two teams in this year out of those 4 teams. Of course we will get two teams in if a different team wins the tourney than who wins the regular season title.

The Pac12 and the BIG are really down this year. That helps.

The cream has to rise to the top.

And the top 2 teams have to be UNR, UNLV, Boise. MAYBE Fresno. Otherwise it's a one bid league, unless one team dominates and another steals a bid in the MWCT

Fresno has a big home game against Oregon tomorrow. That would definitely help their profile.

So they have the top team in our league listed as an 8 seed, and the #2 team listed as an 11 seed that has to play a game just to make the round of 64. And that’s much better than they usually treat our league. Yuck.

Unfortunately this is why even locals don’t take our team more seriously. We could win our league which would be awesome for us, and they would give us a spot that makes us a big underdog to make it past the first weekend of the tournament.

I wonder what going undefeated in our league would get us. A 5 seed maybe?

A 5 seed means ranked between 17th and 20th. Do you think UNLV could be ranked higher based on a very weak non-conference schedule? If UNLV played a schedule like unr, they likely could be higher ranked, but you can't play teams ranked outside of the top 200 and expect anything.

Unless you are Gonzaga, mid majors get no love from the committee. Even Gonzaga has had some bad seeding in the past but not as bad as others.

We’re not going undefeated in conference play. I made that point because it looks like we have no shot at anything higher than a 7 seed. Hope I’m wrong though.

If we actually do go undefeated, that would be incredible and we would be way better than anybody else in the conference. IMO that should be a factor in getting us a higher seed. Plus our only 2 losses would be in OT.

Edit: I’m getting way ahead of myself here because this team hasn’t done anything in conference play yet. I do think this team could win the conference but we’ll see. Still haven’t played enough competition to see how good this team really is.

Maybe one thing we have going for us is we’re 5th in the nation with 91.5 ppg. High scoring teams tend to get more love.
