Auburn is not great, but it's a team that will maybe go .500 in the SEC and San Jose played them tight in an away game.
Spartans are a good football team. Looking at the remainder of their schedule, they could finish the yeeasar 10-2...
Solid QB, talented receiving Corp and really stout on defense especially the front 7..
The biggest issue with Doug going down is he hid a couple warts. Namely pass protection. Doug could get out of trouble when protection broke down. Friel isn't a statue, but he's not nearly as mobile as Doug.
If you happened to record the game go back to the first drive. Watch the play where the dude sacked Doug, when he swept his foot from under him. As Doug goes/going down another defender lands on his upper back/neck/head area. Doug gets up pretty quick, but does this little head shake. I honestly think he got a minor concussion there. It was exacerbated later on the play he threw it out of bounds and was shoved to the ground..He got up slow there and grabbed at his head.
They had a relatively rough start to the season, but I think SJSU is pretty good.
True the entire MW is down this year, but I can easily see SJSU winning it all this season. Defense is good, Cordeiro looks like the best QB is the league right now, and Robinson may be the best RB. Also their WRs are legit.
SJSU has a cakewalk schedule the rest of the way. Most difficulty will be Fresno which is this week. Not sure if they have Haener back, but even if he is he probably won't be 100%.
That offense moves with purpose. Cordeiro makes quick reads and is pretty accurate. Also his running ability makes you spy him, which opens up more passing lanes.
So not probably a top 25 team in their own right, but the best team we have seen this year, probably second to ND we will see all year.
Does that excuse how we played? Nope. But didn't have an answer defensively. We couldn't wrap up Robinson which opened up the passing game. When we covered Cordiero would just run it. No answers. It's hard to scheme out of that
Offensively, Doug look rattled after that early hit. Even so, we missed our 2 wide outs. McKie is very good and has very good hands And Williams is also a solid player, but Williams and Weimer are much better at getting open and beating theor man in one on one situations. That and White again had a rough day. Likely doubled, but still had some drops when he was given opportunities.
