I feel the same way. I don't think it is ok for him at all, considering we tripled his pay and offered an opportunity at a school that can consistently compete for NCAA wins and top recruits. Also what people aren't talking about is the amount of damage that leaving would cause UNLV. I get that your kids are in Texas but you committed to UNLV and they committed to you. It might be legal but its not ethical in any way. He needs to understand that if he leaves he is signing UNLVs death certificate, at least for 3 or so seasons.
How exactly does he damage UNLV by leaving? The damage has already been done.This would only set us back a couple weeks. We were going to end up with a We Are Marshall squad next season anyway.

If you are looking for ethical behavior, you may want to look somewhere else besides college athletics.
It would be easily one of the biggest douche moves in CBB in recent memory and we would be on the butt end of it. Not to mention all the player movement since he was announced. It would be a huge blow functionally to the "team" and reputation of the program.i would be furious at Beard who came across as a no non-sense stand up guy.

This is why, although I originally discounted the possibility, I now believe that he's going. Any coach who was firmly commited to his current situation would immediately issue a denial. From Beard we're getting...crickets...

Not necessarily. There are a bunch of transfers and JUCO's listing UNLV right now. Chris Beard did an amazing one year turnaround at UALR and I believe he could put together a roster that could be surprisingly competitive next year. If he leaves now, by the time our incompetent hiring committee finds, approves, and announces a new coach, all those players will be gone and then the Rebels will be left with a team full of Barry Cheaney's and Dantly Walker's. With Beard we win 17-20 games, with pretty much anyone else we win 5-8 games.
Maybe CB asked for permission and it was granted - no comments from TKM, or coach beard only validates the speculation. I just got off the TT board and it's a done deal from their side. Coaches are "stolen" all the time in college athletics and I've never heard of a tampering lawsuit....so not really sure what is legal or not.
The tragic story of the slow, long death of UNLV basketball just keeps getting sadder and sadder.

Regardless of competency of our AD and Pres. Regardless of how unethical TT is for even launching this pursuit, the one person who should come out smelling like trash is Coach Beard. Releases one of the best recruiters in the country, runs off our players with some unsavory speech that even a quality kid like Ben was put off by and then takes off less than a week after signing a deal.
Just a real piece of garbage. Lets call it for what it is and stop this self hating "we deserve it" crap. He is a bad character guy with no loyalty. Everyone was right that he was going to leave at the first big chance he got and he sure as hell did. Weasel.
I don't necessarily disagree with you about Beard but this is just rotten, rotten luck by UNLV. Worst possible luck. His hometown school, in the area his children live, the school he was a longtime assistant at just magically opens up and decides they want to pursue him? A lot of coaches would take that offer.
Totally different situation than if some other random P5 school decided to try and poach him.
I can't imagine a more bad-luck scenario happening, it's almost unbelievable.
Coach Beard has done tremendous damage to the Rebel program. His word means absolutely nothing. I hope his reputation is forever defined by his actions in this situation. In my eyes he is in rare air as one of the biggest 2-faced douche bags in sports.

So he came in cleared out the coaching staff. Cleared out all the players with a meeting that even sent Ben carter transferring. And then peaced out. Signing a contract and leaving 2 weeks later. I have never heard of a coach doing this. Please god not Menzies. Seriously.
Anyone else think TKM could've had all this planned out to ruin the program? Has anyone ever seen so many players run away from a program the second a new coach is hired? Maybe she hired him temporarily to dump the assistants and scare of the roster. I wouldn't hold it past her.
UNLV released a statement a few minutes ago officially stating that Texas Tech asked for permission to speak with Coach Beard.
And it went on to say that she has spoken to Beard and they agreed to hash this out in the morning.
And UNLV is sending out constant reminders to hurry up and renew our season tickets. How are you supposed to renew when there isn't a team? No coach, no assistants, not even enough players to start the game. I'm ready to call whoever is sending he emails and ask them WTF are they thinking. I've aleays renewed immediatly. This time, I waiting it out.
Hate to say it, but it sucks. To me it's totally unethical. Just you can't tell 6 days ago that you won't let UNLV down and get the hell out of here at first chance. Totally unethical.
No defense for Beard if he takes it. I don't care who is asking for you or how much cheese put on the table. I can't blame AD at all, to me is Beard who accepting TT job would look like a big mount of crap.
