I just wanted to mention.... reiterate, summarize, whatever.... based on info over the past few weeks, which has been all over the place, of course.... this isn't based upon what I want, think we should do...it's what I've heard and I've drawn some conclusions from what I've heard (unless I state otherwise).
a) I'm certain the intent is to go with a new coach. Not saying that it will happen, but I believe it will. I know only "delusional" fans thing there is smoke and fire, according to media and some people... but it's what the intent is. There's no "saving" the job with wins here or there, the only "saving" of the job will be if UNLV doesn't put things together, when I say UNLV I mean the school and boosters... and we know they are very capable of not putting things together. But the wheels have been in motion, the decision was hatched long before another poor season.
b) No, I do not think UNLV will end up with Pitino. But the narrative of "never have talked, there's been no contact".... etc, etc, etc is false. I don't care who spouts the quotes, it's all using the media to put out there what you want to put out there.
c) It's always been this way, but there are some members of the media that are just mouthpieces and they know they are being used as mouthpieces but they still go with it. Zero integrity. It is what it is.
d) There is a bit of panic out there right now, which isn't all that surprising. A little bit behind the scenes, on the sidelines....
e) In the end, though I know UNLV can jack this up sideways, I do believe we will end up with a new coach and it will be viewed as an upgrade by everybody, though it's not going to meet with a 100% approval rating. But I think the general consensus will be that it's a good hire, a good direction.
f) If UNLV is in line with a primary target and it's going to happen, I don't think it would take that long for the announcement. If it goes until FF weekend, my guess is UNLV is lost and the opportunity is lost. I'd pretty much expect things after the Rebels finish their season.
g) UNR sucks.
