4 Star visit

He has potential. Sign the man.

Here is the highlight on him from this article: https://www.si.com/college/louisville/football/jahlil-mcclain-enters-portal

"The 5-foot-11, 180-pound receiver was a highly-ranked prospect coming out of high school, but didn't see the field much in his two years as a Cardinal. He redshirted his true freshman campaign due to injury, and played just 14 total snaps across three games in 2024. He took six snaps at wide receiver and one on special teams vs. Austin Peay, then seven special teams snaps across the Virginia and Clemson games.

A product of Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, McClain was regarded as a high three-star prospect in the 2023 cycle. He came in as the No. 599 recruit in the Class of 2023, per the 247Sports Composite."

Normally I wouldn’t want the Mater Dei/St John Bosco players that are looking to transfer before they arrive but that goes for any school and player now.

Is he a Ricky Whote replacement on ST? If he can’t get four blocked punts per season then I don’t want him. *Sarcasm*

Percy Harvin was 5'11 and had almost 4000 yards from scrimmage and 32 TDs in this system... I think he knows how to work with a short quick WR
He has also had a roster of WR’s well over 6’0” at both his stops as well.
We just saw what a good taller WR in Ricky White can do so I still would like to see a taller WR on the team to go with the others!

I care a little bit. If we're leaning on a 5'5 set of receivers, they'd better be special. But I'd rather have the 5'5 guy who can play than the 6'5 guy who is slow, soft, and doesn't have hands.
Who said anything about tall and slow?
I used Ricky White as an example, he wasn’t slow. Not all tall WR’s are slow?

I just don’t want a bunch midgets on the edges, there’s a clear difference between DeJesus and White as targets downfield!

I wouldn’t consider Ricky a “tall” receiver. He’s not short by any means, but a tall WR to me is 6’-4” and up.

I agree with you. I m just thinking of something like De Jesus vs Casey Cain. On paper, take Cain. But in real life, De Jesus was much better.

I’ll take Bosco and MD players all day. Basically playing in a college system. Oregon has 8-10 on their roster and 3-4 incoming recruits from those high schools. If any decide to leave Eugene I’d definitely kick the tires.

Percy was a Gator under Urban Meyer.
and who pray tell was the OC at Florida?

Also another WR to note that had incredible numbers at Florida under Dan who is 6'-0" was Kadarious Toney. Speedy quick versatile WRs flourish in this offense. Also at Utah, while he wasnt the OC, this system used 2 small WRs (5'-11 and 6'-1") in 2004 with Alex Smith at QB- one had over a thousand yards receiving and the other pretty close. Its designed to allow these speedier WRs to flourish and catch balls in the flat. Weve all see the spread offense for years so its no secret, but under Dan these speedy guys take it to different levels.

I’d rather have dejesus over Casey cain. A 6’5” guy would be great but he better have some production.
Of course there should be production expected?! Don’t we want production from all recruits, why would a tall WR have different expectations?

I don’t get how some here draw the conclusion that a tall WR means less production or slow?

Tall doesn’t mean no talent! Lol

I wouldn't hate if Cain came back. He has good size and athleticism. He made some good plays for us. Some drops too, but so did Ricky.
We had a one read offense and Ricky was usually the one read. So it is hard to get too much out of his time with us, given that his targets were not very high.

I won’t mind him either but hopefully he’s not our best there.

Ricky had a great season especially when you consider his play on special teams. Extremely valuable.

Unfortunately, he was pretty silent in three of our four biggest games, both against Boise. I get that he’s going to get extra attention … but so do all top players. Maybe it was Hajj … didn’t look closely enough and iso on his routes. But you have to find ways to get open. I was disappointed in that respect with Ricky, as good and as valuable as he was. Can’t no show in big games.

I would put those performances on Hajj, and our offensive line.

Me too he was open twice that Boise game Hajj flat out didn't see him once and overthrew him another. I would bet there was more than that.
Hajj started out so well against Fresno State. Then it was a steady decline in completions per game and he missed so many WR’s by the end of the year that I lost count!
