Pac12 is officially dead. With no signed media deal and all these evident departures, you can't recover from their contractual agreements that can only be paid back by their sports media revenue.
I’d still take the PAC brand over MWC.
Most of the PAC’s brand will be playing across the Midwest starting next year.
still more of a brand than the MW. If the PAC can manage to keep their automatic bid for the CFB playoffs it’s a far better option than the MW
That auto-bid is the only thing of value that they have left and it is far from certain that they can keep it. Their brand is right below generic cereal at Walmart at this point. Beyond that their brand is one of incompetent management and snobbery. This is not 2000 anymore. Whatever might remain will take years of rebuilding and rebranding. There is a good reason that the remaining teams were left behind.
They wont keep it.. The whole point of going to a group of 4 power conferences was to cut out some of the fat and get more consolidated TV deals and ignore the small conferences where they can.

The conference realignment is a total mess. Now Stanford and Cal are in discussions with the ACC.

If that is the largest pot of gold for them then they should go for it. Hope it works out for them.
Nothing says "Atlantic" like two schools within close proximity to the Pacific Ocean.
Don't tell us you think the MWC is a disgusting portapotty of a conference without telling us the MWC is a disgusting portapotty of a conference. I hope they get in and I hope all their sports teams enjoy the 7 hour flights.
Here's how this should be handled and very quickly. Keep the PAC brand. It does have value. Look at the BIG East.... Xavier, Creighton, DePaul, ect. weren't part of the original BE and came from CUSA, A10 ect. However, they all benefitted from the BE membership. Cal and Stanford are gone. It will be the BIG or ACC. I say the BIG when the dust settles. That leaves OSU and WSU. Add the top 10 MWC teams (including UNLV) in order to avoid paying exit fees. Replace Stanford and Cal with basketball only with Gonzaga and St. Mary's. Ditch the CBS Sports and go with ESPN and Apple streaming for football and basketball. The new PAC will be a high major hoops conference with 3 final 4's over the last 5 years. On football, over time UNLV with the new commitment to football should grow the program and brand until the next conference movement
Article from the San Diego Union Tribune. Has interview with the OSU AD who is very familiar with the MWC since he was the AD at Utah State. Apparently there are preliminary discussions with the MWC. Also, it answers some questions on the MWC bylaws. It is my impression that San Jose, Hawaii and Reno are not a lock if the MWC dissolves and joins the PAC. Other questions are answered.
