Transfer targets??

Just from looking at the list it seems like Kevin is good with what he has for PF and C. All but one are guards. We definitely need some shooting and a back up for DJ.
I am still waiting to see who leaves UNLV and how many schollies we will have.

Just saw on Twitter that Brok Vice the son of our OL Coach has entered the portal. Interesting to see if he decides to come where his parents are... Big kid I think we were recruiting him before he picked Creighton... 6-10, 245

Yes!

I would really like to see some toughness in the front court, maybe this guy could bring both length and heart!

Vice - If he is tough, can rebound and can shoot the three why did he redshirt?

Traudt, another 6'10" Freshman played and wasn't redshirted.
So you split 5 minutes a game with another player or redshirt and get an extra year? Kalkbrenner played 35 minutes a game... I don't get what you're hinting at? Kid was a late bloomer on the AAU circuit and under recruited if I remember from last year. He got a lot of attention late but chose Creighton. They had a bunch of bigs, so he chose to redshirt...

From the films I saw on Youtube (admittedly a small sample) he seems to really like the three ball. I'm suspect of bigs who like the perimeter. I'd rather have a kid his size that dished out more broken teeth that swish three's. I'd like a big that averages 8 rebounds a game. If he is that way, great. But we don't need another Cottrell.

The list is guard dominated. IMO, we shouldn't look at any guard that can't shoot the three at better than 35%.

Candidates:

Dubar (J) - 40%
Williams (F) - 45%
Moore (S) - 36%
Wenzel (S) - 38%
Maddox (J) - 40%
Brown (F) - 41%

My Favorites: Williams, Wenzel, Maddox and Brown

Williams:

Wenzel:

Dante Maddox:

Rodney Brown:

The amount of Vegas kids that are entering the portal is interesting... You wonder if DTJ could sway a few to come home and play with him and Hill...

Don’t sleep on Dubar either, pretty efficient and effective from 2pt, 3pt and the foul line!

I would like to see us get VEGAS kids. But I'm concerned CKK won't be able to get what we need to win going that route.

This team can't afford to be looking at anything beyond getting better than last year. And that means we need better players than left. Better than the Boone Bros. and Rodriguez. We lost 43 Pts a game in departures. We lost our best defender and I don't see how we improve there. So....... we need more points. We are @ 175th in the country for total offense. I don't think it's too much to ask to be in the top 50. That's ONLY an additional 4 points a game. That means we need to bring in 47 points. Don't start counting Hill any other current player because their average points are in the mix already. That means 47 NEW points. Four players at 9 points a piece won't cut it because there aren't enough minutes in the game for them to to get theirs and even if they do it isn't enough to get where we were.

We will need three players ( Two guards and a Forward ) who can get @ 13-15 points a game in 30 minutes and two more who can get @ 6 in 10 minutes. That leaves us a little slop for the inevitable bad game by one of these players. I believe DTJ can up his average by 5 ppg. Whaley getting more efficient or Hicks finding his true self would help. I don't even know what to say about Nowell and Cottrell. And players getting their first taste of D1 ball usually don't get with the program till Conference play - and that often is too late. ( Evans, N'Daye, Cherry, Bannarbie)

But to finish this lengthy post, CKK better bring in some really good players or he won't see '26. IMO, the limiting factor should be are they or are they not under indictment. If not, bring them on if they can produce.

More than pure talent, I think we need pieces that compliment each other.
We had injuries this past season, but also had a good amount of individual talent. It also took more than half a season to find a groove in terms of how to play offensively and defensively.
I don't know if we need players "better" than the Boones. I think both were plenty talented in their own ways.
But we need to build an offense around what we have.
What I would really like is to be good enough defensively to cut out most of all of the help defense. A big part of our rebounding woes was that we would collapse on anyone who got touches in the paint. Hard to box out your man when that happens.
I like the fact we may have true low post scoring threats. Whaley being one of them if he sticks around. But I would also like to build a better offense around this. So better passing bigs, better spacing is key. We struggled with both pass selection and spacing. If we have a post that commands a double team, we need to punish teams for doubling us. We couldn't do that well. Look at all of the final 4 teams with high quality bigs. Their entire offense is built around that.
As for shooters last season? Well Webster shot 50% the previous season and Keylan shot better than 40%. I think Webster on some level straight up regressed, but shot selection and the flow of the offense is also a factor.

Feels a little uneasy that we havent heard names that are going and havent gotten any names that are coming so far. I know its early and theres a coming dead period but seems like we should be hearing more about these guys we are targeting and or guys who may be coming...

Last year was toward the end of April. Both the Boones signed the third week of April. I wouldn't get the least bit concerned for another couple of weeks.

My guess is KK is meeting with players this week to discuss their future with the Rebels. I am expecting to see a couple transfers starting next week

As a coach, I think you offer help. Wherever that may be. But if you want to win, you have to replace deadweight with some production.
True, but do you really think Kevin is the one to find “said” productive talent?

Cherry looks to be an interesting addition. Has some quickness to his frame, though not a ton of speed or bounce. Has a hook over each hand but his release point in pretty low (though he gets it up quick). It looked like he had a significant size advantage over everyone in that video so grain of salt.
I don't think he would be as good as a low post scorer as Kalib was the past season. I think the highlight video of the Creighton game alone, against a 7 ft all American no less, would be more impressive than this highlight video of an entire season.
But I think he would still be a weapon in the low post and worth trying to run some offense through him. Definitely seems to be a better passer and moves better without the ball that Kalib. Not sure of his minutes or the pace of their team last year, but I don't think he would slow us down as much as Kalib did this season either.

Was that Dantley trying to guard him in some of the "highlights?"

C'mon, man! Let me see him against someone talented. The highlights (not just his, other recruits as well) against crap teams and players doesn't tell me much. Didn't Martinez have a double-double this season? He's horrible so what does that tell you about the team he recorded that against? Life Insurance University, maybe?

Agreed. He may be good but wow … this is about as lopsided as it can be shown in a highlight video with the competition. You can’t tell how decent a guy is when Scrub is guarding him.

I agree. It is tough to extrapolate how well he will fair at this level.
Some things translate in terms of how he moves and some of the physical things.
That low hook shot concerns me.
To be fair, sometimes the same moves work against overmatched players as well quality players. We won't know until we see him tested in games, or at least in practice.

My take from the Vid is I'm not counting on him to equal Kalib's numbers. Maybe half. I'm really hoping - and it's just hope - Pape is better than I fear.

I’ll bet a million bucks he doesn’t reach his average in scoring but does surpass rebounding. I don’t see much of an offensive weapon in him. He could have a couple double digit scoring games here and there… maybe, but I don’t think it will be consistent.

Here’s a transfer target I would love to see here, Johnell Davis!

I know it won’t happen but I bet he would pair well with DJ!

To me he looks to be more of a threat to score down low than say Muoka. A decent passer too.
Between him and the 4s I think we will have enough to continue to try to feed the post offensively.
I See Pape as a defensive specialist, maybe a threat for the pick and roll for the alley oop. You know, Diong level stuff
