Getting behind by 15 points is reason for concern. At the same time, do not overlook the resolve of this team to overcome that deficit, send the game into OT and then win. With 5 true freshman, the team could have easily folded.
Portland has a solid program. This years team has alot of experience. As another person pointed out, this game was expected to be close. It would behoove Rice and company to figure out a way to stop getting behind by 10-15 points. Hard to come back from deficit that big in 2nd half against Utah, Arizona, Kansas, SDSU, New Mexico, Boise, CSU....etc.
I like the resolve of this team. They energy with which they play the game. And, they play like a team with 5 TRUE FRESHMAN and 6 players who are in their first year with the program. This is likely going to be one of those "cardiac kids" type of teams.
I'm expecting UNLV to lose the next 2 games. Hopefully they keep the final score respectable. Then I predict they will beat S. Utah. That will be 7-4 against D1 teams non conference, with the game at Kansas still left to be played. I'm hoping the Rebels can go 1-1 in these next 2 games, but that is going to be difficult.
Check back with me in about one month. If the team keeps digging big holes for themselves and loses due to playing stiffer competition, my outlook will likely not be as optimistic.
