High School: Williams just finished his senior campaign at Dickinson High School in the Houston, Texas area where he played for Coach Jay Wilson. Marcus was rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com and was one of the top-rated guards in Texas; ranked 14th in the state by Texas Hoops and in the top 10 for his region of the greater Houston area. As a senior, Williams added 21.4 points per game and 7.3 assists. He also added 3.9 rebounds per game and 3.3 steals per night. He earned First Team All-VYPE, a magazine dedicated to Houston high school sports. His team ranked No. 14 in the nation according to MaxPreps.com and ranked second in Texas. DHS ended their abbreviated season at 32-5 and with a trip to the 6A state final four in Texas' largest classification.

In AAU he played for Team Harden – Texas in the Adidas Gauntlet for head coach, Eric Dixon. His brother, Faite plays basketball at Prairie View A&M.

He also received offers from Stephen F Austin, Sam Houston State and North Texas.

To far from anywhere when you lived in Houston is my guess on why he entered portal. He will definitely get a hard look by Washington and several Pac 12 schools. North Texas is in Dallas so all the large schools had seen this kid play in high school. Just a ton of great players in Texas, some will slip by the Big 12 eyeballs.
He was 6'2 and 165. A lot like Yap on the surface, undersized but a really good potential player possibly.

This sucks. Get good and leave. So players are like coaches now. Feel for Wyoming. Not good for their team or this conference.

Did he drop 30 on us?

I never saw him play.

You can make the case that the MWC is the new Juco where starters put in the 2 years and transfer to a P5 school these days..

Covid year makes it a free for all. They are going to have to take a hard look at the transfer rules after this year. Maybe only granting waivers to play right away if a the HC leaves. Plus other shit. Definitely isn't sustainable the way it is now.

The door was opened when they started paying coaching in the millions and is now wide open that players get paid stipends beyond scholarships, and looking at the possibility of getting paid in the future based on changes in the NCAA rules.

I wonder if players will pay back the tax payers when teams lose money or they play badly?

The simple fact is that 95% plus of all athletic teams lose money, and the only reason that many schools break even is donations by alumni. Ultimately, these athletes are going to kill the golden goose, and will learn how to pay their own way through school in the same way as non-student athletes!
