Looking at the crowd on TV and ESPN attendance numbers, the Fresno crowd resembled a T&M crowd. (@4000 announced) It's not like Fresno has a big-time Hockey team. Or almost anything else to occupy the time. I guess it could be covid restrictions. But that game meant more to Fresno than it meant to us and it should have been well attended. There should have been at least 4000 students alone.
Just for grins I looked at the Syracuse attendance. ( 26000 capacity )Just three years ago they averaged 20,000 for home games. The last three games they have corralled 1500. ( NOT 15000) They blame it on Covid, but I think it has to be something more. The entire ACC is down @ 18% and most of the schools are in the south with no restrictions.
Could it be there are too many schools and elite athletes are too spread out. The 3 point arc? Bad Refs? People got used to staying home during covid? Sports weariness? Too much electronic entertainment? Too much weed? The metaverse?
Whatever it is, if it continues it could hurt the sport. Big Time.
