I know we were close with JRob a year or two but I never really felt like we had a good football team. It always seemed like we were close under JRob, but just not quite there, on the cusp.
We have to go all the way back to Harvey Hyde and the early 1980's. 1984 was the year and Randall Cunningham was our Quarterback
I remember the year. In my memory the Sliver bowl was the Dust bowl. It was very popular to go to the Football games. I remember the atmosphere was electric and everyone seemed like they were having fun. Except for all that damn dust in the parking lot especially after the game in the dark.
WE have to go Waaaaaaay back to search our memory banks for the "good years" or better yet - THE GOOD YEAR . lol
This year is fun - i am enjoying it. Seems like finally for once the chips are falling our way -
OLD GUY RANT coming .....
Its sad Las Vegas has so many options now and the fans are so fickle. - Funny how in the early 80's Las Vegas was NOT a Major city. Comparatively, It did have a little bit of college town feel - a weird college town at that but Las Vegas and UNLV will never again have that special connection it once did.
As the city and the University were expanding it seemed like a relationship amongst the residents of Las Vegas and the University were one - The people were interested in community and the growth - seems like people were more invested.
Las Vegas is a Big city now - its its different - We are winning but if you can't slap a high 5 with your neighbor or your coworker and revel in what OUR college town TEAM has done does it even matter ??? The one thing that was so special about UNLV is that it tied community together-
Las Vegas got its wish - It grew and GOT BIG AF -
A big reason UNLV is not the same is because Las Vegas is not the same.
The bitter taste of success
