was fired there was a lot of dissatisfaction with the way the roster was being put together. It was expressed by many that we were sick of 4 & 5 star guys that weren’t gonna stick around. We wanted players we would get to know for more than a year or two. Have an actual Senior Night for a change for someone that had been here for 4 years and not a 1 year transfer. Who was our last senior that graduated after 4 years in the program? Marshall?

Whether or not anybody around here realizes it or not we are not Duke, Kentucky, NC or Kansas. Those are the schools that get the Real 5 Star Players, ready for NBA now type of guys. Should we ever become a perennial Top 10 BB program again and join a Power 5 conference maybe we will be a desired destination for the handful of 5 legitimate 5 Stars that are available each year.

Yeah I wish we were winning more games now but I am enjoying watching this group grow. Ntwambe is a very special player & Diong is finding his nich but will continue to struggle defensively against real strong and offensively gifted centers until he puts on some more muscle. JTT is an absolute beast. I have never seen anybody his size that can move like him. If he can’t make it in BB the NFL could use him as a TE.

But with that said I think our wins and losses this season rest on Hardy’s shoulders. You can tell that he is the guy out there that can make something happen. He is making better decisions as the season goes along and fewer bad ones plus he is playing more minutes than Robo and when they are in together Hardy is playing the point which means Robo is committing fewer turnovers.

Looking ahead to the end of the season we will have a guy graduating that has been in the program for 3 years and has shown improvement each year. Clyburn would never be recruited by CMM again but he has worked hard and developed into a serviceable and sometimes really good player. It will be fun to stand and applaud him on Senior Night!

Unfortunately it is a long a painful process to slowly bring in and develop mid level recruits into the players needed for UNLV to get back to the NCAA. I hope that the team continues to improve in order for UNLV to improve over last year and end up in the top portion of the MWC by the end of the year, and improve over the win total from last year.

I disagree and I know you're a patient man but I see us trending up both in FB and Hoops hang in there.
I tend to agree. I don't necessarily see either program under current staff flourishing (9 wins football, 26 in basketball would be exceeding imo), but both I think can stabilize and build a solid modern, current-generation fan base. From there I think those "depending on the roster make-up" seasons will probably create peaks and valleys. That said, I don't know that MM gets another year after this, depending on how it plays out. I think he should get another one *almost* regardless of how it plays out (this freshman group looks quite good to me if they group at a decent pace).

Their is absolutely no reason, except for blind faith, to think we have any reason to believe that basketball is going to get better anytime soon.

Football...YES. Rodgers last game alone gives the FB program a lot of hope, the entire Football roster is the most talented and deep roster we have had in a long time.

Yeah but back to the Senior Night thing, it is gonna be nice to see Clyburn walk out to center court with his parents and get an ovation for being a Rebel and having given it his all and improved every year he was here. He has got to be our first 3 year player in I don’t know how long. And don’t forget Robo even though he wasn’t what we were looking for, he wanted to come back to his hometown, paid his own way to be a Rebel. That’s more than anyone else in a long time!!!

It is going to be nice to see that. He gave a lot. Graduating seniors deserve to be recognized for Grier work and loyalty.

It’d be nicer if more than 1K were there applauding. Probably have 2K for the game, 1K for the early ceremony.

I think UNLV’s gotta start comping these things to people who might go. It’s just unused inventory, may as well get some people inside.

We are gonna come together by then, be on a hot streak competing for the MWC regular season title and the joint is gonna be packed and rocking!!!

Um, ok. If you say so.

I know you’re joking but even if the Rebels went on some sort of overachieving run, I don’t see people flocking back into the fray that quickly. Call me crazy. We’ve seen enough of this fanbase to have a good idea ...

joe if team starts out like 5 and 1 and plays UNR/Aztecs we get at least 12k we had 14k for UNR in complete fee fall! This fan base needs some hope and jolt of excitement.

You’re really overestimating our fanbase/underestimating the scorn. A lot of damage has been done. A few weeks, a season... that wouldnt recoup the fans. Might reengergize the ones that have stuck with it, but not the town. Also, how VGK is doing at that time may have an impact. If they freefall and don’t make the playoffs, that would grab some people (if we trended up hard, but we’ve been trending down, have lost 4 of our last 6 and only one has been vs a “good” team).

UNLV has always been "comping" tickets to students for both football and basketball and you see the lack of seats being filled from that.

If there are groups that can be comp'd that will definitely show up then I agree with giving away tickets. But the past few years have shown me how much my season tickets are devalued when not only do none of the friends that used to be season ticket holders want to come for free when I have extra seats, but there are "mini season ticket" packages that don't require a RAF donation, or promos that offer really cheap tickets and "all you can eat"... but still they don't seem to have many takers.

Good point. People aren’t even taking freebies with good seats from friends.

It’s a tough spot.

I was thinking giveaways for elementary kids with good scores. A four pack. Kids pressure on parents is best. If they get it as a “reward” then maybe they’ll use them.

Then again, some of the brighter kids might avoid good scores intentionally so they don’t get burdened with free seats. Jk. Lighten up.

Biggest question is how do you rejuvenate fan base without firing MM this yr, I don’t see 12 or 13 wins in MWC this yr, so what solutions do we have? The recruits we have coming in won’t turn needle. Can UNLV afford another estimate 500 folks not buying season tickets?

I think by winning a bunch of games, finish in the top 2 or 3 in conference and develop our 2 offensive standouts. Joel & Hardy need to each start scoring 20+/gm. Nothing brings out fans like star power.

No. They can’t.

It’s almost a can’t win situation right now.

With our extremely mediocre performances in out of conference play, this likely to be backed up by more mediocre performances in conference, I don't think you'll need to worry about the coaching staff sticking around for too long.
