What happens to the athletic department budget if we can’t play our revenue football games? In my opinion, there will be a push to start football with conference games. That won’t hurt the big 10 or the SEC but it sure could hurt UNLV and other teams who are in our position.

If they get that far along that they are going to cancel part of the season, then you may as well cancel the entire season. If we still are restricted at the end of the summer, then they will seriously need to consider cancellation of the athletic department, because the state will be so far into debt that they will need to cut half of everything.

The discussion I heard was centered around how much college teams need spring ball. That ship has already sailed and now the discussion among power conference AD's is how to recover without losing their seasons. It doesn't appear that starting practice in July/August is enough time for an early September start. The start could be more like late mid to late Sept and would concentrate on conference games only. For the big schools this is no problem. They already don't care much about early season games. All that happens is they get a little less of the gigantic revenue they already share - especially if the games are T.V. only. But for the group of five conferences it would be a disaster. It may be an opportunity for the NCAA to split off the lower rung of teams all together and just concentrate on the P5.
