i was blown away and some of the anti-Walton stuff.

in my opinion, he is light years ahead and beyond anyone who has ever called any games. it's not even close.

how can anyone listen and not laugh/chuckle/smile throughout the broadcast? i may have to suggest removing sticks.

Bryant (Indiana - Center) shoots an ill advised 3 that grazes both rim and backboard....
Walton - Bryant with a 3??? Ohhhhh, just off the mark.

I think Walton and Gus Johnson should call games together. Walton could go off on some tangent about how the Grateful Dead's third album is a perfect example of how when people love one another and have one common goal they can create magic and do beautiful things. This was somehow supposed to be explaining the properties of the 1-3-1 zone.

All the while Gus will be screaming into the mic as a guy hits a big three 'Jones shoots the three..................NAILS IT, COLD BLOODED, ASSASSIN!!!'

Pure tv magic.

In Walton's defense he knows the game of basketball. He brings a up a ton of good points/observations during a game. Its just sifting through the nonsense that sucks.

I actually like Gus. He can make a free throw seem exciting.

Walton has jumped the shark for me. He had maybe two comments that made me laugh pretty hard, but 95% of it is just awkward and annoying.

I did enjoy his line when we threw away that inbound pass at the end, calling it "one of the nine worst plays in UNLV history." That hit my funny bone for some reason.

Comedy wise he is entertaining. I get the impression that sometimes he is having flashbacks during the games and might not be all there.

I get that he's probably on acid while calling games, but that's what makes it great. it's so random and i really just don't need to be educated on the difference between a 2-3 or 3-2 zone.

if you don't know much about basketball, i could see how he'd be annoying and worthless to you. the reality is it's basketball. such a simple game and i would much rather be entertained because it's tough for the Rebels to entertain me. i need a huge leads so my heart doesn't want to be attacked. IU didn't help.

My brother in law is a dead head. Travelled with the band for years. He said the Crowd loves him.

Just to know what makes a man act the way Walton does !!karaoke _jesus.... Just plain curious my man

Well, feel free to bash me as basketball-ignorant, or whatever else you may feel about Walton critics, but I still find him un-listenable.I'll remove the stick and pass on a few observations...

For starters, and this one is obviously not his fault, I find his deep, gravelly voice very difficult to understand. Maybe I need to adjust the treble or bass on my TV, but I have a very hard time making out what inanity he's dwelling on at the moment.

If you find his comments humorous and/or entertaining, good for you. I do not. Most of the time he's off on some un-related tangent while events on the court are being totally ignored. You were hired to cover the game, Bill. Pay attention to it once-in-a-while. We uneducated basketball fans would like some commentary on what's actually transpiring on the court.

As soon as I saw his smiling countenance I immediately switched to simulcasting Sandler-Smith rather than suffer through Walton. But watching the replay forced me to listen to him (I know, I could have muted it, but I like play-by-play). So I got to hear him babble on about the silent "N" in Nwamu, or consistently refer to our MVP as "McGraw." Great stuff! That story about Walt Hazzard's wife yelling "let'm play!" at the Staples Center was pure comedy gold! Gold, Jerry!

And I agree, his spirited defense of Tark is nice to hear although he's such a space-cadet that I'm afraid he's not helping Coach's cause very much. But hey, if you find him hilarious, good for you, I'm sure he would agree.
