Any idea how serious? Upper ankle sprain? Something else?DJ is currently in a walking boot and has crutches
too early for any of those things to be answered. As someone said earlier if it’s a high ankle sprain that’s best case scenario. He’d be more than recovered by season. Any other injury is cause for concernHow long is he out? Is there a chance he misses the season or most of the season?
If so does he redshirt?
I thought JJ and Nowell both improved by the end of the year. JJ looked good in ot against Reno when Harlkless fouled out and of course without Gilbert in there. Hopefully Nowell and JJ show more improvement their Junior years specially if Dedan is out. But Dedan needs to be back!THIS is why I emphasized that we need a capable backup PG.
JJ was so capable that he backed up Webster.
Webster is a SG.
Maybe, and hear me out, Hill could fill that role. I know he's not a typical PG, and never played it in college, but he fits the Kruger narrative.
So either Hill or I really hope that Nowell develops.
Age wise, he should be a freshman.Hopefully not too serious..must be a big challenge for him basically a High school Junior going up against college seniors and 5th year grad kids. The physical demands will be enormous so hopefully he learns to pace himself.
UNLV Lady Rebel basketball, was always better than the men's.Well, Lady Rebel basketball is sounding better and better.
I don’t believe that he is available to attend summer practice sessions.Hopefully not too serious..must be a big challenge for him basically a High school Junior going up against college seniors and 5th year grad kids. The physical demands will be enormous so hopefully he learns to pace himself.
Yeah he posted on IG at the quick care where they gave him boot and crutches. Has to just be small break or sprain. As a licensed rehab professional, I can tell you that foot injuries are contagious, and DJ must have been hanging out with Cottrell without the proper mask!
I'm guessing this is coming from a new injury. Just a couple of days ago UNLV tweeted about the excitement of DJ to UNLV. I'm guessing they wouldn't do that if they already knew that he had a significant injury.
It seemed like DJ was out of summer practices due to eligibility, then this injury happened, trying to read the tea leaves but I could be wrong.
Truth is, this could be a high ankle sprain, it could be a smallish stress fracture, it could also be a more standard lateral ankle sprain depending on the severity and how conservative they want to be with him. Which makes sense given that it seems like he could participate in team practices right now anyway.
It is likely NOT a more significant fracture or an Achilles tear if he is walking in that boot.
Most likely nothing that would prevent him from missing serious time this season. Just given the the very limited information so far.

But why a visit to a quick care when he'd be able to call an ortho doc? Some of my Olympians, pro athletes, and headliners had my cell so they could call me directly. Hard to believe that he or CKK couldn't get him into see an ortho.A visit to quick care and no follow-up or referral to an orthopedic surgeon? Not serious IMO.
That quick care doc has no idea how to handle any orthopedic injury other than knowing Ottawa ankle rules (maybe) and to look for an obvious fracture on an x ray.But why a visit to a quick care when he'd be able to call an ortho doc? Agree. Not that I'm a doctor with knowledge but from personal experience with tendinitis in my foot/ankle.. put a boot or brace on a couple of times for walking support. It helped occasionally just to keep from rolling, but it was better to just let it be than irritate it further. That quick care doc has no idea how to handle any orthopedic injury other than knowing Ottawa ankle rules (maybe) and to look for an obvious fracture on an x ray.
Personally i do NOT like boots for regular sprains since early motion has proven to speed speed recovery.
Couldn’t agree more!Personally i do NOT like boots for regular sprains since early motion has proven to speed speed recovery.
What I was saying was a quick care visit meant no Achilles injury or compound open fractures etc. very likely break or sprain if quick care was the first visit. Sure they’ll refer to specialist from there. That quick care doc has no idea how to handle any orthopedic injury other than knowing Ottawa ankle rules (maybe) and to look for an obvious fracture on an x ray.

Both are centers. You don’t see foot issues with point guards.Bad feet have taken down more than one good player. Bill Walton & Greg Odom to name a couple.
Exactly. Also, most are decent at diagnosing. I would anticipate quick care performed x-rays and conducted an examine. If an orthopedic intervention is necessary they make the referral. What I was saying was a quick care visit meant no Achilles injury or compound open fractures etc. very likely break or sprain if quick care was the first visit. Versus a connected orthopod who "takes care of it."1400 dollars for x rays at quick care..without insurance.
