Sources: Mendenhall set to take over Utah State
Utah State has finalized a six-year deal to hire New Mexico's Bronco Mendenhall as its next football coach, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Feel bad for the Lobo's. Not long ago stuff like that could have happened to us.
And now their starting QB is entering the portal. Sucks to be a Lobo right now.

UNM has to be feeling super low right now. Like an abused wife who finally escapes the hubby, finds this great new guy, it lasts a couple months before he abuses her.

UNM doesnt have any money... Thats part of the problem. They went above their weight class to get Bronco and they had to know that if he had any sort of success he was going to leave. Sucks for them its an lateral move in conference, but Norvell did something similar because he hated Reno and frankly Id pick Logan over ABQ all day...
I think USU has some pretty heavy backing. Their own version of T Boone.

Reminds me of the Otz situation, DRF tried to keep him around but no dice. New Mexico tried to keep Bronco up to the Nth hour but his mind was already made up last week. Going back home to Utah was too much to pass up.
Exactly, him staying is indirectly in our best interest. Feel bad for UNM.
Not to get off topic but, I was pleasantly surprised that in the current recruitment of the 2026 version of the MWC UTEP would be #2 in MW recruitment ranking per On3. We need all 2026 MWC teams to step up.

UNM is basically the football equivalent of SJSU in basketball.
Also hate to break everyone's bubble, but the PAC is an upgrade. It is a marginal one, but it is an upgrade nonetheless. It also sounds like USU is happy with their expected increase in revenue that they are cool with paying a buyout.
Not sure how the Blake Anderson firing affects them. If they are still on the hook for some of his contract or they were allow to kill it due to cause, or somewhere in between.

I, understand they want the best for their athletics. Like, we do. But, come on. Really?
Just, last week I had an argument with one of the posters there.
He, said "Bronco, would destroy Barry Odom, if we played against UNLV."
I, just laughed and told him. UNLV, has a chance at the CFP with a win at Boise St.
And, said to him "Are, you sure you want to hold firm on that statement?"
Then, after thoughtful consideration, he reiterated on his statement and agreed with me.
This, is Bronco's contract with Utah St. He, makes more than Barry Odom. As, of now.
It’s pretty much even, if Odom wins tonight he gets 25k and then is guaranteed another 100k for playing in the CFP.
Blake just sued them for his contract. They fired him "for cause" and he's saying they didn't have cause to fire them. He has all the leverage because what he was fired for goes all the way up to the President. They will settle out of court.
He should get $1M for getting us in the CFP lol
